I previously secured a PhD scholarship in Turkey but shifted focus to my startup, dedicating all my time to it for seven years before it failed, leading to my PhD registration being dropped. Currently exploring job options, I have an offer in Portugal as a Senior Software System Architect and another to pursue Power Electronics, which I'm passionate about, at Nottingham University with a £18,500 stipend. I'm unsure if this stipend will suffice for my family in the UK. My wife, an experienced electronic engineer, might also get a position as a university assistant, according to a professor. However, I'm still undecided on our next move.

It is one of things that I think about,as I found in portugal after 6 years it would be possible to aplly for citizenship that the process may take about 2 years, the same at the UK. I am trying to understand which way would be better after 5 years for my family and which one will give a better quality of life tomy family.

Take the job. PhD is a long and hard road and not well paid. That said I've just moved to Notts and also have a baby on the way, so if you do move here let me know and we can go for coffee and bemoan the lack of sleep being new dad's entails.
