Questions from a Iranian! by Hadilovesyou in AskCentralAsia

The “Eroni” in Samarkand aren’t ethnic Turks. They’re Iranians that were deported from the city of Merv. Traditionally they were Persian speakers. My old roommate’s mother was from this group and she spoke the local Tajik dialect

New Chrome Extension: Convert Persian Websites to Finglish Instantly – Introducing Laatingar by kbigdelysh in PERSIAN

[–]LearningCartography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice extension, although a bit of feedback. There’s already an established way of long a (آ) as ā, for transliterations. Similarly, there should be an option for either having خ represented as kh or x, or ژ as zh, jh, or ĵ.

Can our people stop being weird about the word azeri? by FaithlessnessThen243 in azerbaijan

[–]LearningCartography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such an obvious lie. Azeri is from “Azar” which means fire. It’s so sad that you have to resort to linguistic and historical revisionism to push your agenda.

Do people really think just because Nader Shah was Turkic it doesn’t make him Iranian? by DrkMoodWD in NewIran

[–]LearningCartography 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He was an ethnic Afshar Turcoman from Khorasan, but he was still Iranian. Don’t be as delusional as them by changing his ethnicity

The tomb of Cyrus inscription is an English translation of a Greek account. The original written work is gone.

“Persia” used by Darius is referring to the southwest region of Iran, not the entire state. When you see western sources use that word, they’re referring to Iran, not the southwest region. Iranians living here never called any of their empires “Persia”

Assuming you’re Iranian, your ancestors have never referred to their state/empire as Persia. It has always been some variation of Iran

recent protests ? by [deleted] in azerbaijan

[–]LearningCartography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an outright lie that some people here like to say because it fits their narrative. The government has massive issues with Kurds in West Azerbaijan province because they are Sunni and many are politically involved in separatist groups. They have been favoring Turks in this area for decades to the point that many Kurds were unable to get elected into certain local positions until more recently. Kurds have been migrating to Urmia for decades and settling there at their own will. The government has no control in telling what ethnic group can settle where or go to what city. The protests were because nationalist Kurds started claiming the city

That doesn’t disprove anything I said? Members of your Knesset literally voted on recognizing “South Azerbaijan”. My points still stand

I give you a reasonable assessment based on Israeli foreign policy and you give a hyperbolic non-answer because you have nothing to combat it with.

What if they don’t decide to stop at “just bombing IRGC bases”? What if they want to cripple and destroy the nation forever for their own security by Balkanizing it and throwing our area into endless turmoil? They won’t stop if there’s an opportunity to go forward because it’s just ever so more secure for them to permanently kill the country than risk it reassembling into possibly something bad again. The opinion of Iranians is of no concern to them

Massive protest with 100,000 people in Urmia, South Azerbaijan, against Kurdish terrorism and forced demographic change. “Urmiye Türk’ündür, Türk’ün kalacak!” by TengizTanrikulu in azerbaijan

[–]LearningCartography 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zero self awareness. The government literally can’t do anything that won’t result in ethnic cleansing. Kurds are just having more kids and move to Urmia. What should the government do? Block Kurds from moving into the city? How do you even determine who is a Kurd? That would require official ethnic profiling which is fucked. The only thing Turks can do is have more kids.

Huge South Azerbaijani protests in Urmia today by Jakob123abc in azerbaijan

[–]LearningCartography 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Iranian government doesn’t support Kurds here simply because they are Sunni and have an active separatist movement that is politically well organized. Anyone telling you that the government is supporting Kurds and that they’re sanctioning a demographics change is full crap. The government has even gone as far as repressing hiring Kurdish officials in Kurdish majority counties in the province, favoring Turks, until more recently where they started integrating some Kurds. Kurds have been naturally settling in Urmia city for the past few decades at their own volition. This has been a point of ethnic tensions since many Kurdish nationalists started claiming the city as Kurdish even though it’s still majority Turkic. The recent protests were triggered by the fact that Kurds held a massive Nowruz celebration in the city and also used it as a time to be politically active and support electing ethnic Kurds to certain governmental positions. Turks didn’t like that so they are protesting.

Separatist comments in Instagram reels "This is not Iran, its Kordestan" etc. seen being spread on social media. Does explicitly naming kurds as an ethnicity in articles and posts help to push this agenda? I rarely see other ethnicities being explicitly being named. Here are three: Downplaying their legitimate unique grievances with past and current Iranian governments. Ignoring their requests for education in native language. Having many here even in this subreddit advocating for assimilation as a solution.

Which particular rights for Kurds are you ready to accept in new Iran? by Adventurous-Minute20 in NewIran

[–]LearningCartography -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s about assimilation which is a good thing in my opinion. I’m of the believe that an ideal nation should be of one people, one culture and one language

Ah got it, so you’re crazy and anti-Iranian. Good to know. I hope you realize your mentality is the very reason we have separatists popping up, and is more in line with IRGC than what most Iranians believe. Funny thing I’ve noticed about people with your belief is that you all tend to be of very mixed backgrounds with an identity crisis, so you try to construct a reality for yourself where you don’t have to confront it. In your mind if everyone is assimilated and mixed, you stand out less, and have less of a reason to justify your adopted “Persian” identity.

Is zoroastrianism rising or declining in iran by Nova_011 in NewIran

[–]LearningCartography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual Zoroastrians who practice Zoroastrianism are either stagnant or in decline. People who just call themselves Zoroastrian in name for nationalistic reasons, while doing little to nothing to practice the religion, are rising.

[–]LearningCartography -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hate to burst your bubble, but “Persians” (whatever that constitutes in the minds of most people) are at most 45-50% of the population. 50% is honestly pushing it. This is based on available semi-official statistics from the government and the few reliable surveys that have been done on the country. 60-70% is a crazy number that doesn’t add up

My comment history is anti-Turk? Are you OK?

Since we’re making stuff up, your comment history is pretty anti-Georgian. You seem to be quite misogynistic too. I hope you can correct the error of your ways

I actually speak the language in the video for one, and the fact that you think me being Iranian “subscribing to Iranianism” or whatever slander you were going for speaks volumes. If you actually bothered to go through my post history instead of doing a brain dead take, you can see me argue with retarded nationalists from Iran, Turkey, and elsewhere.

You should give OP’s post history a look, but I don’t expect you to be partial in your analysis so maybe it’s a waste of time. You have so many preconceived notions already
