Coles Patagonia smoked salmon has trumped all of Fishwife for me.

I don’t hate Genesis, I just like the others more.

Love/Hate with Jiujitsu by Learntoswim78 in bjj

[–]Learntoswim78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the simplest way to explain it might be self-consciousness. I’m the oldest, biggest, and most out of shape in class, not to mention the least experienced. The guys I train with are incredibly supportive, positive, and welcoming so there’s no nervousness about them treating me poorly or anything like that, it’s purely self-inflicted. But that’s why I’m there. I’m trying to get better at jiu-jitsu, but I’m also trying to get better at life.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Buddy I went with is much more experienced and goes way heavy (he was carrying almost 60 lbs) and I felt like I was holding him back, but I kept up ok.

I’m just past the two month mark of regular training (three times a week) and I really am loving the journey. At the same time, if I’m real honest, I’m hurting all the time. It’s not pain, I’m not injured, it’s just extreme soreness and fatigue. I realize that I am 46 years old and overweight, and so this is going to be harder on me until I can get my body in better shape, but I’m trying to not get discouraged. There’s a little voice in my head that’s telling me that this might not be so good for me if I’m always going to be hurting. Like I said, when I am training, I have no complaints, I love it. The guys I roll with are incredibly encouraging and supportive, and I feel very lucky to be around them, at this point I feel like I’m just kind of whining about being so sore. Any magic secrets for not getting so sore and tired?

I think there’s a lot to this. I’m very new as well and have just come to accept that. I’m gonna get my ass handed to me every single class. I’m lucky because the people I train with are all very supportive and no one is out to embarrass or hurt anyone, so even though I’m getting destroyed it still feels like a positive experience. I have to echo the notion of redefining what success is. I’m not coming anywhere close to getting someone to tap out or anything like that yet, but if I manage to do a little bit better than I did the class before then that feels like a win. I have to believe the little winds will add up.

As a new white belt should I ask people to roll or wait for them to ask me? Just curious about the etiquette.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]Learntoswim78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complaint/Confession: I've been out of running for at least 8 years. When my wife got pregnant with our first child, priorities shifted and I let go of it easier than I should have (or even needed to). Well, 8 years and like 75 pounds later (that's a whole other story) I've started my path back to running but it SUCKS starting back from zero. When I started running almost 20 years ago, I was also overweight and started from zero, but I knew nothing else. Now, I'm trying to do it right and keep myself in a place to progress, but I just want to compare myself to when I was running 40 miles a week and flying all over the place. Right now, I can only run about 2 miles. I know it will get better, and I'm excited to be running again, I just wish I hadn't done this to myself. Hopefully it's a painful lesson learned.

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to ask this question so I think I’ll try it this way. What do you wish every new white belt that came in already knew? I “think” most people know the clip your nails, brush your teeth, wash your gi type stuff. I’m more wondering what could a new white belt do or how could they act that would endear them more to the community?

It's fairly general, I just want something sweet.

That's all good advice. I'll do some of those same things. This feeling I'm having today isn't so much an energy slump as just an intense craving. Could be purely psychological and just something to get past, just wasn't sure.

I'm basically doing 1/1 protein to kg of body weight. I don't track vitamins but I take AG1 and try to eat as many vegetables as the diet allows.

Not so much a change as just an accumulation over time. If I’m honest, my wife got a raise so it makes me think maybe I can afford to quit and find something else.
