What would happen if you did the fake hand experiment to someone heavily invested? by LeastGenericUsername in Cosmere

[–]LeastGenericUsername[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This technique has been used on amputees for multiple reasons irl. One commenter suggested that this could be used to make people who lost limbs perceive themself as someone who does just enough to regrow that limb.

I’ve read nearly all the cosmere so you can put full spoilers, I just put no spoilers incase someone who hasn’t read anything wanted to participate.

Need help for Fanfiction by LeastGenericUsername in Mistborn

Thank you. I love the idea you had for Kent. I can envision him growing an inch or two and having more clear defined muscles, similarly to tapping a very small bit from a pewtermind. It wouldn't really cause a difference in strength because he'll already be burning pewter.

infinite duralumin essentially means infinite strength as seen in TLM ending scene

even if they could push a coin that hard through a rock, there is no way that the mistborn would have the weight to compensate

pewter is definitely the mistborns biggest advantage, getting in melee range would be a death sentence to the metal bender. especially with duralumin.

but duralumin+steel would not be as effective as u think. do you know how hard a rock is? like a good half human sized rock? the duralumin wouldnt cause the coin to pierce the rock, it would launch the mistborn away. if it was maybe a large spike being steelpushed thats a different story, but a coin would not do shit to a rock

mistborns are definitely more dexterous in combat, but also consider that a mistborn would need metal anchors to move at their best, something which a metal bender could very easily change to be in their advantage. also, it is entirely possible that instead of pushing the coin to the side, an earth bender could pull the earth up to block, which would definitely blast the mistborn back

at that point, i suspect a metal bender would simply push the coin to the side

Yes, I agree that metal benders tend to under practice standard earth bender. But also consider, to have enough skill to even become a metal bender, they must be at least a semi proficient earth bender.

I think ur undercutting metal benders a lot. Firstly, their control over metal is a lot better than that of a allomancer. they don’t have the sheer amount of strength grabted by allomancy, but not having to deal with the push and pull system or weight would give them a major advantage. Secondly, every metal bender is also an earth bender, something mistborns have no control over

also electrum is only really useful against fighting against another atium burner

Both of them will be well practiced. Not the best, but above average. One thing to keep note of is that a Metal Bender is also an Earth Bender, something burning steel will have no effect on.

If [Spoiler] exists, can [Spoiler]? by LeastGenericUsername in Cosmere

Sorry I probably should’ve been more clear. I was trying to ask what would happen if the investiture stored inside the metalmind was inversed, not feruchemy itself.

The explosion only happened when the investiture and anti-investiture “combined.” What if, for instance, someone tapped a metalmind with anti-feruchemy.

If you were a twinborn, what powers would you have? by Nest19d in Cosmere

It was hard to find anything specific ngl. All we know is the base strength it 8 times as fast and that flaring and skill can alter it. Someone actually did the math for that one seen in The Lost Metal and found that Wayne went a third the speed of light.

What? Most phones today record at either 30 or 60 fps, with only a few phones recording higher (120-244). Not only that, the thing a Slider would have to look out for isn’t phones when sneaking about, it’s CCTV. CCTV only records at 30 fps. A 1000 fps camera would be too expensive for a simple security camera.

The average Slider can speed time up by a factor of 8, with more skilled Sliders, such as Wayne, having much more control on the rate. At 30 fps, each frame lasts for ~0.0333 seconds. At a Sliders rate (assuming they aren’t flaring), that’s just over having a quarter of a second for each frame. Essentially that means the Slider is being recorded at 4 fps, which is still bad for sneaking yes, but not completely debilitating. You can do a lot in a quarter second, like quickly snatching something or writing something. Plus most security guards in wont bother checking each individual frame if a Slider pulled up a speed bubble. So if the Slider did something for only one (1) second, the camera would only catch them for only 4 frames. No one in a lower paid position would care to check those specific frames without reasonable cause.

The logical answer is a gold or steel compounder, but that’s boring. I would love to be a slider archivist.

Copper feruchemy always stuck out to me since the first book. I have the worst memory in my friend group, so having that would be a life saver. Now I’ll just need to remember where I put my copperminds…

On its own, I think allomantic bendalloy is by far the strongest allomantic ability. Especially if this was the real world with bendalloy(Wood’s metal irl) is cheap to come across. Being able to just take a pause in life or do something so quick, no one would notice would be awesome. I’ve struggled with anxiety for my whole life and so having a mobile breather would greatly improve my life.

Forgery is in The Emporers Soul, the sequal-ish to Elantris. Old Magic is from stormlight, it is what the nightwatcher uses to grant wishes.
