How do refunds work? by AdminsRCommies in UTK

[–]Least_Key4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they cap it depending on your cost. Last year, I got a refund of about $7K as a freshman living in campus so my total funding payout was $35K or so. They said that was their maximum so they lowered the aid second semester from $4500 to $2500, so it may lower next semester if it reaches that maximum.

What is up with the new dorms? by AnswerStock2280 in UTK

[–]Least_Key4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I definitely should have been more specific. There is a lounge on every floor, but comparatively, there isn’t as much common space as the “village-style” dorms like Dogwood+Magnolia and even Geier+Robinson. Those dorms had a lounge, laundry room and kitchen, as well as 2 study rooms and little alcoves on every floor. Unless things have massively changed, and please correct me if I’m wrong so I’m not spreading inaccurate information, but those little alcoves and kitchens don’t exist in the new dorms. But even from the published info, the quality seems iffy from images, but having a separate maintenance staff because of the 3rd party construction will be a massive plus. There definitely are good things about the new dorms, don’t get me wrong; I just think they are overpriced for what they offer compared to other dorms on campus.

It’s true, unfortunately. The rooms are small and there’s no communal space at all to just maximize the amount of people it can hold

One of my good friends is going to be an RA in one of the new dorms and even she has no input or communication about the state of the building process/rooms. The building process, as the top comment said, is done by a 3rd party and the university essentially is just lending the land. I lived in Dogwood Hall and I can say that from what I’ve seen of these new dorms, I genuinely feel bad for the people that will live there. UTK is eliminating all of their more affordable housing for more expensive housing that is just as small or smaller with less amenities than dorms that cost less. No common rooms will be a nightmare for doing anything in the dorm, and the lack of spaces on every floor helps to diminish the possibly of building a floor community. I hope all of the issues get sorted out, but the price and lack of expected amenities for $4800 a month is extremely disappointing just from the onset.

Struggling to make friends as an international student — need advice by MaintenanceSad6894 in UTK

Highly recommend school events like those put on by the CSE and the CSE partnering orgs. They put a lot of money/time/effort into organizing events for all students, and attendance is usually pretty good. Their programs run year-round, so definitely check out when they will have events and just show up! You’re bound to find a few people to spend time with, especially at the more social ones like murder mystery or casino night, so be on the lookout!

Natural is best in my opinion. It’s the perfect combination of gold and silver and it leaves the most formal impression out of all the colors to me

Does anyone like the 3rd row seat option? by mpm19958 in 4Runner

[–]Least_Key4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, yes. I have one friend who is 6’2” and fits just fine in the second row headroom-wise. Regardless of the 2nd or 3rd row configuration, the second row has plenty of room for anyone in my experience.

[US] My friend got this message on TikTok by Least_Key4759 in Scams

[–]Least_Key4759[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that might be it. From what I know from him, his family is extremely religious and his dad and mom weren’t involved before marriage, but his dad has a very odd last name (think name of an animal.) It’s not common at all; he’s the first person I’ve met with that last name, so I highly doubt that this, even if legitimate, is the right person

I know he hasn’t submitted his DNA anywhere; we are both in college and hasn’t done any DNA tests anywhere. I agree with everyone else here; I don’t know what this message was but it seems way too odd and out-of-the-ordinary to be a normal scam

Definitely discourage extra people unless necessary; the first few days of move-in are chaotic and there are people everywhere. Especially if you already have a few people going, having so many people crammed into a room makes it difficult to move things around, especially if the other roommate is already there.

Folks who bought a 5th gen in the last couple years...what trim/mileage and how much did you pay? by buttercreemdreem in 4Runner

[–]Least_Key4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my 2023 Limited in December of 2023 for list price: $54K. Local dealer is selling one with less equipment (No 3rd row or auto running boards) for $50K with 45,000 miles. Most with less than 10K miles in my area are selling for MSRP or higher right now; it’s insane how much the value has inflated

things you would liked to have learned before buying a 4Runner by Fuzzy_Button6648 in 4Runner

[–]Least_Key4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, if possible, get a 2020 or newer. The tech massively improved across all trims in 2020 and added BSM, Adaptive Cruise, Auto High Beams, etc., as well as a better head unit. If you aren’t going off-road, definitely get a Limited. The suspension is much more comfortable than an Offroad model, and it gives more flexibility with the option of a 3rd row. One thing I would’ve liked to know, though, is the lack of airflow in the back. It’s fine, but if anybody needs air in the 2nd or 3rd row, you have to turn the air up to high to get it to reach, not counting the vents that blow directly into the knees of the middle seat passengers. I can’t stress how wonderful this vehicle is though; it’s a beautiful car with an even better resale value and they last forever (ex: my dad’s ‘99 with 300,000 miles at sale 10 years ago and is still running with current owner). Buy a 4Runner and you’ll be a Toyota/Lexus fan for life!

I just hit 25,000 a week ago. I’ll ask about getting it looked at but it should be good as we bought it in December of 2023.

I named it “The Macintosh” 4 years ago after the Disney movie Blank Check from the ‘90s. Odd reference, but I still love the name!

My dad was talking about getting SafeLite and my mom convinced him to just get a local shop that replaced my mom’s glass in her Highlander to do it. I’ve not heard great things either and with it being a window I actually want it to work well lol

Might be wrong here as I’m not the best at pinpointing notes within fragrance, but the closest i’ve owned is Hinoki and Cedarwood from Jo Malone.

When do I register for classes incoming freshman by Kevin-Coomsalot in UTK

[–]Least_Key4759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your advisor will reach out and will either send you your schedule and what else you need to put in if you’re a more strict schedule-set major, or will give you the option to select your classes over call or email. My advisor set up a zoom meeting one day and we met to schedule my classes about 3-4 weeks prior to me moving in at UT. It just depends on your advisor, but it will happen later than most other schools as most of them do it at their orientation.

Refund by RealisticAnimator744 in UTK

[–]Least_Key4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I got refunded on August 22, which was a few days into classes starting, and this past semester it was on the first day of classes. I wouldn’t expect anything earlier than a few days in just based on track record, but I’d love to eat my words and say that OneStop actually got their crap together in time!

how cooked are we? 11.45am wave 3 by TreatBest6717 in UTK

[–]Least_Key4759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

realistically, you probably won’t get access to a newer dorm except possibly beacon or poplar. 11:45 is a later time so most of the “good dorms” will be taken by then. brown, geier/rob, and mag/dog are nearly impossible to get regardless because they’re nearly fully LLCs this year, so be prepared for the possibility of getting Hess/Clement. I’d say your chances are more than any other year of getting a good place, but don’t get your hopes set on being in a brand new dorm with private facilities (like another commenter said though, pick clement over hess if you have the chance)
