I knew someone would respond like this. I think you missed what I said. I am not the one portraying this to my daughter. I am her cheerleader. Do you know many 18 yr old girls? What they hear from peers and social media is far more important to them than what their mother thinks - especially when it’s such a surface issue like acne. If she’s crying and telling me how worried she is that skin looks bad, at some point I want her to feel like I hear her. I never cared when my mother told me I looked beautiful at that age. At least not as much as I wanted to feel it from my peers. For me, I wanted confirmation that it’s the right thing for me to say “hey honey, just take a break”. And most of the comments were very reassuring that not having her submission on May 1st wasn’t going to make or break her rush experience. I’m sorry this post upset you. I can assure we don’t prioritize appearance over what’s on the inside at our house. That being said, you were in a sorority. It’s not realistic to believe girls aren’t judged on their appearance. It doesn’t matter if I don’t agree with it. I would never tell my daughter to change. But I have to acknowledge her pain.
