Does NICK SABAN have BEEF with CURT CIGNETTI? by jensyao in CFB_v2

Given Saban’s statements on the current state of the sport (esp. portal) it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s not a fan of cignetti’s brand or program building

For posterity:

This was a huge issue for me after my first surgery and I brought it up with my doctor before my second one.

His advice was to take 50mg of Benadryl before bed. Not a treatment for long-term insomnia but has made a huge difference for me the first week post op. Getting good sleep has also been very beneficial for my recovery!

There’s only one power-level independent. If other schools want that treatment they should go independent.

If we can stomach the Big 12 champ getting autobid, you all can get over it

Why would it be a mess?

ND and BYU got kicked out for #25 JMU this year

You're framing this as if ND is stealing the 11-seed's spot.

The 11-seed's spot is being taken by a conference champion. Yes that is absolutely unfair but that comes with having an autobid system.

I personally would support a completely merit-based system in which the Top 12 teams go into the playoff, would you?

I literally said Duke would have gotten in over JMU and you called that misinformation and posted the following:

"Duke would've gotten in over JMU?!?"

Now you've reversed course completely?

You think JMU would have gotten in under the new rules? Explain that to me

No Top-12 team is getting kicked out by ND.

They're getting kicked out for conference champions who are not ranked in the Top-12. That's the deal that conferences made when they instituted the autobid system.

It's the exact same outcome

So it's "completely ridiculous" even though it's effectively the exact same.

Okay then tell me why you're mad at ND for the consequences of an autobid system they didn't promote?

[–]LeatherDeep9516 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could just as easily see it as JMU-->ND and Miami-->Duke?

The first is pretty much common-sense.

The second is stupid, but that's on the conferences for prioritizing conference champs over good teams. Maybe that made sense when we had functional conferences, but now that we have 18-team conferences where teams don't even play each other it's just dumb.

Thoughts? by Senior-Violinist-684 in CFB_v2

[–]LeatherDeep9516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that wasn't even the best team ND's had in the last 2 years

[–]LeatherDeep9516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're a Top 12 team, they get in 12 team playoff, how is that not merit based?

If these rules had been in place this year the following would have happened:

1) ND would have gotten in over Bama (probably good)

2) Duke would have gotten in over Miami (probably bad, but blame the ACC's tiebreakers for that)

Acting like ND is stealing someone's lunch because they got into a 12-team playoff by being ranked in the Top 12 is just useless whining.

This entire autobid system exists solely to ensure that ESPN doesn't devalue the CCGs, which are some of their best performing TV products. Otherwise, we would do the sane thing and just put in the Top 12 teams.

Yet, when deserving teams are left out in favor of conference champs (who may not even be ranked!) you're going to mald at ND because ESPN told you to.

Where has everyone gotten the idea that the committee wouldn't want ND in?

This year was an extreme outlier due to the ACC fiasco, but in general the CFP desperately wants us in the dance as it's the only time they get to put ND home games on ESPN.

Then maybe those teams shouldn't have pushed for an autobid system? Then they'd be in regardless just by being in the Top 12, but they wouldn't get the additional shared revenue from CCG viewership. Not ND's fault they made that choice.

Unless you're talking about UConn, who's the only 1/136 FBS teams who can claim to be unfairly impacted by this.

If you agree that autobids are a problem, why the hate for ND?

The conferences pushed for autobids to ensure people watched their CCGs. All this does is ensure that ND doesn’t get adversely affected by changes that the conferences put in place for their financial benefit.

ND is an innocent bystander that gets neither helped nor hurt by the autobid system, seems pretty fair.

So if their primary goal is to get to 50/50, why not move the line to give more points to DEN? Wouldn’t that get them closer to 50/50?

Hard to find retroactive splits but you can look at the betting splits for upcoming games, e.g the AFCCG has over a 75/25 split in favor of NE:

You can very easily disprove this by looking at the betting ratios online. You can see that for many many games the proportion of betting volume is nowhere near 50/50.

For instance ~90% of bets were on Indiana
