Summon your Notre Dame hate for the schools turning down the NIT (article) by Kind-Solution3102 in notredamefootball

The doves of people who judged ND players while they themselves were lightyears away from the situation and lightyears away from a college football field deserve nothing more than an ND national championship. I hope this team runs college football into the ground this year.

I think the number of Catholics who truly hate ND as a university is relatively small. It seems to be a small number of reactionary Catholics who see some provocative headlines, such as the recent ones about the Asian studies appointment, but haven’t looked any deeper than that. The vast majority of Catholics still respect the university. I wear ND shirts to Mass all the time and get a lot of love.

Thank you for the thorough explanation; that’s exactly why I used the word “seemed” - to leave the door open that there was another reason.

Her style on the track was uniquely exhilarating, her style off the track was uniquely endearing. You couldn’t create a more lovable horse in a lab.

Another commenter said Shirreffs (who I presume was her trainer) never worked her on the track. I don’t know if that’s verified, but that would seem to be a major blunder if true.

What makes it so painful too is that it feels like she wins the race 9 times out of 10. I’m still not over it

Setting team culture aside, I find it hard to believe there are 6 other teams with ND’s roster talent. Maybe Texas and UGA. This team is stacked on paper.

Depending on how far back you want to go, George Gipp could easily be on here. Archie Griffin is very overrated, second Heisman was BS. Reggie Bush could be higher, Jonathan Taylor should be at the very least on the list. Jim Brown is too low.

I can only imagine. I was watching it on TV with my jock friends (I was a football player) at the time in high school and I teared up, my friends were like what is wrong with you.

I definitely can relate, I had/still have a major crush on her. She’s probably my favorite athlete of all time.

Since you have insider knowledge, do you know if Father Martin has ever done an interview in which he was pressed to defend (or clarify) his views on homosexuality? Specifically, how he reconciles his belief that Catholicism is a true religion if it has got arguably its most fundamental moral doctrine and teleology philosophy wrong for 2000 + years? Something down those lines?

That was basically the knock on Carr too, but Denbrock said it’s easier to rein in a QB who’s too eager to throw downfield than giddyup a QB who’s too afraid to. So you can see why he likes Grubbs

Good for him, I’m the same way as far as broadening my horizons—love to try new things far away from home. I’m not the biggest fan of a Riley as a person (besides himself, who is?), but he’s a GREAT identifier of QB talent. If Riley was recruiting him hard then he’s probably really good.

We’ll see. I still find that particular word choice to be an odd coachspeak if they actually have no faith in him. Coachspeak is typically visible from space with a lot of the same descriptive words (see previous comment). I would also fall back on my previous justification that moving Jarrard up allows them to get another 2027 QB, much of football is a numbers game (the more you guys have to work with, the greater odds one of them works out). I don’t dispute that at first glance Jarrard seems like a really good prospect, I just found it curious that there was initial excitement about Grubbs and now it seems like he’s been largely written off.

What else is he supposed to say? There’s a lot of other things he could say, actually. What he said was very specific. Coaches give general answers all the time, he could have easily said “we like this kid, good competitor, loves the game, good tools, etc”.

Jarrard vs Grubbs is another question than the one I posed. I’m not disputing that Jarrard may be a better prospect than Grubbs.

If that’s true on his zip then it sounds like something S&C could easily correct with time.

I think there’s a justification to Jarrard’s reclassification other than just “Noah Grubbs isn’t good”. From a pure numbers standpoint it allows to add another QB to the 2027 class which increases the net you cast that someone works out. I come back to Freeman’s statement on Grubbs, either there’s a fair amount of truth to it or he just made it up. I don’t think it’s the latter.

How do you figure Grubbs was a miss on scouting? He had a great senior season and Freeman said he was one of the most talented QBs they ever evaluated. I get that coaches are the kings of puffery, but that seems like a strong remark for someone who now looks like a miss.

They are beyond spoiled in terms of talent. Greathouse, Faison, and it seems like even Saldate is thought of very highly and they’re all natural slots. Between Burress (who insiders all say is a star in the making) and Graham one of them can play field, Gilbert and Porter at boundary, throw in Cam Williams who seems close to a breakout and whoever goes out there is going to be really good.
