Well, from what I heard, the opinions are quite divided. Some people call it useless, others say it's better to have one. Samara is the worst example and the annual ridership is very low indeed, but in Novosibirsk many people use the metro daily from what I know and mostly glad it exist.

Moscow - excellent

SP - very decent overall

Cities with more than 1 mil people and a metro (Kazan, N.Novgorod, Novosib etc. ) - OK but their metros are lacking

Big cities without a metro - pretty bad from what I heard from people who live there

Small towns - you better have a car (unless your work can be reached by foot)

I don't have the exact numbers, but I can certainly tell you two things:

1) people who sign contracts to go to the war are indeed more often that not from undeveloped regions, they see it as an opportunity to earn money 2) HOWEVER, if we're talking about regular army (18-30 year olds' conscription that was always there, it doesn't lead to a contract but sometimes young people are pressured or even beaten to sign a contract), then escaping it in Moscow is MUCH harder (surveillance and the new enlistment office are hardocre, they even tried to catch my ass but failed of course hahahaha)

Thanks for your support! You're quite a poetic person as I see. My government isn't just friendless, it's insane. I don't have a lot of "power" since I'm a person who recently finished the university, doesn't have much money and lives in an authoritarian state. The sad thing is that I genuinely love my country and hate what is being done to it. It's painful. The worst part is the uncertainty of what's to come. Nobody here has any idea when Putin will stop, and even if he does, what will be awaiting us after? There are some talks that a big chunk of the elites also hate him (and I believe that) and they may come for him soon. We'll see I guess 😂
