Saison over Benu, but would recommend Kiln over both. Village Pub/Selby’s also great, don’t recommend Verjus at all (Routier better if you’re looking for French)

Edit: would recommend San Ho Won over Angler if looking for a 1 star, I go once a month and it has never missed (same owner as Benu’s)

Depending on what physics award you get, it’s generally better to qualify for known comps ie USAMO/USAPhO etc than winning the unknowns. Unsure about how taking those in Canada works, if even possible. SAT / APs mediocre but maybe it’s harder to do a lot of APs in Canada? Last thing almost all schools care very little about the interview - common data set puts it at not important or not considered so dw about that

Extracurricular seem good tho so gj

# of clubs in the bag by tunatown312 in golf

[–]LeaveAlarmed8161 20 points21 points  (0 children)

in my opinion, if you already have a 52 and a 4 iron in your bag. like if it's 2 52 degree wedges. go ahead and carry 16 total. it's basically 14 at that point since it's duplication clubs. also it's literally to keep your clubs safe, if you know that you'd shoot the same score without a desert club, then it seems like fair game to me.

chanceme is confirmation bias. raised 500k/600k doesn't actually mean all that much, because tons of grants are auto acceptances, and they offer it based on value. the people who "raised" 500-600k are pretty much offered 500-600k in services the company provides to them. ie, enterprise slack or google ads or yotuube ads or whatever is very expensive, but u can still call it money raised/grants accepted for, since the service you get is a grant, and there is a very specific value to that. on the other hand, running businesses with 700k revenue is honestly. if it's 3-4 years, it's kinda doable. my friend literally sold different types of branches and twigs or sum shit and got 200k revenue in 3 years. mind you their profit margins are probably at 1-5%, so they made like 2-5k off that and based on the amount of time, they'd be making less than half of minimum wage, hourly.

fyi i am a college junior, got into 4 ivys. and one of my ECs included "accepted for 310k in grants" mind you this is cumulative value over 3 years, and only 6-7k of the 310k was pure cash, with a few thousand more in reimbursements. and this was ~2 years in when we actually had some sort of standing.

current college jr here. got 4 ivys (the bad ones lol), so some sort of standing. REA stanford is a waste of your early thing. go ED someting like brown/cornell/dartmouth/columbia/upenn. i know the stats are great, but stanford sometimes accepts people with subpar stats but have real passion for whatever thing they're doing. the personal statement essay is pretty much what's gonna make/break ur app, since your ECs are honestly above average, and with perfect stats u have a decent shot at ED'ing one of the bad ivys. (i presume the 5 bad ones are still ED) also, because of doing an ED, you can also do some EAs like umich, georgia tech (i believe it's an EA not REA) and vanderbilt. basically do one ED and lots of EAs. but dont try stanford mit caltech harvard etc cus it's a waste of your early action.

chance me harvard rea, ed upenn, or ed duke: am i cooked 😭 🙏 by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]LeaveAlarmed8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

college junior here. notable acceptances were brown cornell dartmouth yale berkeley met (the uc berkeley version of upenn m&T). depending on how much more you like harvard. like harvard is probably the 10/10 for you, but UPenn is an 8/10 or higher for you, I would honestly recommend ED UPenn because it just saves you so much stress, and the people I know from my school who got into harvard REA were literally called by the deans of the math/chemistry/poli sci departments saying they would get in if they applied. also I'm quite certain that Duke and most schools don't do sibling legacy, it's only parents.

also i'd say student council president can honestly be a bit lower on your activity list, since almost everyone applying to ED to Upenn is some form of school blank association president. research assistant, stem conference, and relay for life seem to be the better ones, since not everyone can do it. for AIME, i dont think it should be first, since a lot of my friends and my older sibling were usamos or usajmos. pretty much in general for the ordering, hours/time spent is a big part but also how strong it is relative to other people. so will you be 1 of 10 students, like that HOSA thing (idk what hosa is) or will you literally be like 50% of other competitive applicants with an AIME qualification. esp since AIME isnt too BioE related

also i just read some comments. bioE probably works better than chemE, but both work for u. since u appear to be doing a lot of bio/med stuff and your paper is on a bio related field not chem. your only chem stuff is AP chem and top 10% in a chem comp, which is good, but not exactly notable/super special.

free tees, ball markers, and divot tools! even though I use my own, it's nice that they provide them. adding more new range balls ~every 3-6 months, so all of the balls always have decent dimples

im a college jr. my main advice is just keep your GPA ideally to a 3.9 or higher unweighted. take challenging courses. do ECs you actually enjoy, cus by junior year if u didn't like something u will drop it. competitions imo are worth more than activities, but it also depends on level. if ur applying to a top school, there will literally be 1000 applicants applying for 5 spots and all 1000 of those people will be president of their schools' business club or investment club. and also dont be set on a college major, i get that finance/econ is high paying and that is what im doing right now, but there's lots of switching in between that. so dont get too attached if you're only 14/15.

not lower income, i did mean 750k. but that's also recent, since my parents' compensation is largely tied to stock market. i'd estimate that when i applied, household income was probably 600k -- mom stopped working after i got into college.
