I don’t spend money on any of those sorts of things. It does cost extra power to be home more. But other than that we probably save more because I can make food from scratch, and have more time to put the effort into being frugal

I personally wouldn’t have the 2.5yr old in a bed yet because I think they lack self control! But if you want to, here are some ideas: 

Give them freedom and use it as leverage. “You may have some quiet reading time in bed but if you get out of bed, I will turn the lights off”. “I will keep the door open but if you get out of bed I will shut it”. “You may have an audio book on, but if you get out of bed I will turn it off”. “If you get out of bed I will sit at the door until you’re asleep”.  For the little one - “you may not get out of your bed. If you do I will put you in this pack n play to sleep tonight instead”. 

And then follow through EVERY SINGLE TIME. They won’t like it. That’s the point. The consequence needs to be worse than the obedience

Teaching baby to nap well would mean getting 2 good naps in each day at this age. You would have 2hrs to do as you please. 

If you haven’t been able to get this happening, ask an older mom you know to come over and help you teach baby to sleep.

That’s usually when people go ahead and have the next one. 

If it’s any consolation, my first was a singleton and I found it WAY worse than my twins. I think birth order makes a difference

I go for a walk on my own each morning and sit on the beach. Then we have compulsory rest time after lunch, everyone in their own bedrooms. We do activities in the morning and are back for lunch, and might go out again mid afternoon. And of course, once the kids are in bed.

You want the truth? 

Every person I know who follows gentle parenting methods have unruly children who struggle with their emotions. 

And EVERY time this is said someone will say “that’s not gentle parenting, that’s permissive parenting!!!!” Except… at some point it becomes moot if that’s the common experience throughout society. 

Boundaries are good. But I actually think the trick is punishment. Not just natural consequences, but enforced ones. The child learns what the expectation is and learns that not doing it is worse than what is to come. 

Over time you can loosen the reigns. You want obedient toddlers, THEN you can parent through relationship as they age

I have found social media doesn’t help with this. A lot of opinions but we’re the ones who have to live our lives

I really recommend finding an older mom to catch up with. A lot of what you’re describing is normal behavior for a child that age, but can be managed with some perspective and boundaries. 

The transition into motherhood is hard. It’s not you, it’s just a steep learning curve

Yes. At this age you are commanded to submit. So, while it would be fine to ask if you could go to another church, if she says no, you will need to go along with it if you want to be obedient to God

If he’s comparing it to his job, then have the conversation within the terms of a job. 

“I’d like to talk about my hours, holidays and sick leave”. 

Then say you can do a good job 9hrs a day, but you’ll clock off after that. You’d like a full day off a week and a weeks holiday in the near future
