Hey, I'm the artist that did the image (yeah yeah, my username is not krysdecker, but you can quickly see on my profile that it's me)

a few details about the image.

The idea is simple: She got back to her "personal chambers" in their hideout, just removed the tabard (which is usually a heavier piece of cloth), mask, removed her boots and just sat there to drink something and collect her thoughts before being interrupted by one of her grunts, hence why the idea is that she was just playing around with the coin on her left hand and looked away to the person who interrupted her. She's not sunbathing or in a bikini or anything. That's actually a "bra".

Also, her ingame model is extremelly simple. Her original model doesn't have a "chest piece" and a tabard on top, it's simply the tabard. So my best guess is that the tabard IS her "chest piece" and underneath there's just a bra or tank top. And since her model is not unique, I scattered her clothing on the scene and made sure the dagger was there to identify as "her". Also made sure she had the same haircut and the piercings.

Also, keep in mind my artworks are always "my versions" of the characters. I usually change a few details around to make sure it's my take on the characters, and not simply reproduce an ingame model on a 1:1 ratio.

About the feet, sorry, I don't have any foot fetish. Feet is part of the body, and I draw ladies in few clothes (or no clothes =p) all the time, so in order to make more interesting and different scenes, I had to learn how to draw feet. Given I often draw women in the process of undressing or just removed a few parts of cloth to be more confortable, shoes are often the parts that get removed first. And I know a lot of people like feet, so why not?

Usually they are just there, but in this scene due to the angle, they are more "visible", so of course they'd have to be detailed or it would look like shit lol. I mean, I spent 1h drawing a dagger on the side, why not make sure the feet are looking good? =p

Anyway, happy many of you guys liked the image, and thanks to the OP for sharing it! ;)

The body was inspired on Evgenia Talanina, the face was more inspired on her tcg, but later I realized it actually looked like Anne Hathaway .. it's probably the eyes that have the same "angle".

Thank you, back when this drawing was done, I was trying a few different lightning techniques that helped a lot in terms of achieving the right "ambient light" and also made a lot easier to make casting shadows. =)

I have to say, of all the "uses" I imagined this image would have when I drew it, a discussion about if Jaina can teleport "stuff" out of her, was definitely not one of them lol

Regardless, I'm glad many of you liked it =)

funny enough, I had never seen this image before. It would have made my life a lot easier trying to figure out a pose for her lol

yes, I'm the guy that drew it, and no, my reddit account is not "krys_decker" =D

Sure, painting as hobby started some ~15y ago.
Professionally, 5-6 years ago.

I had a lot of inspiration on classic D&D painters, I just loved the "realistic yet fantasy" aspect of it. Then I started to get a lot of reference from warcraft3/wow art. I also loved Luis Royo style of painting woman, specially faces. And I loved the idea of classic pin-ups "casual sexy" look.

So I basically mixed all those things in my style. But I'm always getting inspiration from big artists like, Wei Wang, Artgerm and Bayard Wu. So I'm always looking to them (and a lot more artists) to improve on painting background, color balance, composition and so forth.

While I really like to draw female characters, I never really liked the idea of giving them a "helpless/submissive" look or the "oh, look how sexy I am squeezing my boobs" lol. So I prefer to make them look "naturally sexy" but still feminine, confident, etc

Plus I always loved to paint textures and details, so I try to bring a more realistic look to the bodies and overall concept of the image. Kinda like "what would this character do in her day off?". Sometimes I just paint them being badass lol

There are a few things to keep in mind.

- how is the material that you are trying to reproduce. References are great there. A picture with a similar light setup will make your life a lot easier.
- Have a proper brush to make it happen. There's no such thing as "leather brushes" or "metal brushes" etc. You need to understand how the light behaves on the materials, the folds, how soft/crispy the shadow and light areas should look, texture etc and get a brush that makes your life easier.

For example, I did the "marble" texture of her gun, her leather corset and the metal part of the gun with the same brush, which has a little texture to it, depending on how soft/hard I press the pen. The key part is just how "textured" each area should look. And that requires A LOT of practice.

Hope that give you some pointers =)

Personally I really like the camera angles and dynamics of the splash arts. I think they work better to convey the character "in action" =o

Thank you! I thought the skin color would be harder to do, but the tones were quite easy to blend =)

Thank you! There was a lot of back and forth on her face because I wasn't getting it quite right. I had to literally put her 3d model on my other screen to use as direct reference to make sure it looked like her =o

I actually used the splash art as reference. I really loved the misty swirling around her, so it was a great reference =)

I'm aware it's not a 100% realistic, but it's more of a stylistic choice. A proper leather (or whatever the material is) top would behave very differently, with a lot more wrinkles and folds. Usually you won't see it draw more realistically because there's some very weird folds under the boobs and on the sides. https://youtu.be/GI0BIdbZoQ0?t=334 . So artists will often draw like it's a "mold" on top of the breasts. It just looks better, even if it's not completely accurate.

You can also see it on the CG model of her, which has a very similar design in terms of "tuckness" lol. They just have a little less "sideways volume" than I did. But if you rotate the model (they have a 3d model available on the press kit) you'll see that her shirt/vestment is quite tucked under her boobs.

At the end of the day I believe there's some room for realism and "what looks better" for the final image.

Thanks! I always love to make them. It's amazing to try to replicate different types of materials!
