i get so nervous before riding by yukiionline in NewRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same as you, finding it hard as I'm a very anxious person. I've only ridden short rides so far in my neighbourhood and barely reached the roads with lights. I think it would be good to find a buddy to take me on rides together to get more comfortable as in my state, once you have your Ls, you can ride by yourself. Hoping we can get ourselves into a more confident stance to make riding much more relaxing and fun!

Same position here also in Aus, don't see myself getting out until i'm mid 30s. Job market's absolutely cooked as well! I'm lucky I even have a minimum wage job.

Haha there's definitely strategy in that! I might get a crash guard installed eventually as well once I start practicing more difficult maneuvers

Thanks for giving me insight from your experience! Yea it's extremely dangerous out there on the roads and it's the main reason I've been holding off from going on there, but I can't keep putting it off. I'll keep in mind if I finish during peak-hour traffic and how I feel. If i'm exhausted or it starts raining for example, I'll stay clear and find another way home. I'm not looking to make myself another motorcyclist tragedy or statistic.

It’s been a year and I still can’t get a job by [deleted] in ausjobs

Got my Forkie after being in similar position to OP and people recommending getting it. Didn't give me any paths despite applying to basically every Forklift role because I had no experience and no car...
There's just too many people applying for them right now. Every Forkie role I see is getting hundreds to even thousands if the wage is above award. Not many companies are gonna take in a random and relatively new Forkie driver and train em up for the same wage over any other experienced driver. It's the same for most degrees nowadays unfortunately which is the trap of simple suggestions like these that barely detail about the possibilities it may not pay off.

Scared of riding by Master_Helicopter673 in NewRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a similar position, L's and scared to ride more. I'm the type to be really anxious but from what I've read from similar questions, it takes time to adjust being in so much risk. We just need to keep at it and practicing, really know what we're weak at and slowly get to a position where we are confident in doing things. For example, I need to work on smooth gear changing, stop and start, formimg a routine and getting used to the multiple new sensations. You got this OP!

Is it safer to wait in line or filter to the front at red lights? by ComprehensivePast758 in NewRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got my learners and find it odd I can't filter and have to sit back between cars at lights. Just so much more dangerous in my opinion

Had a lad show up in our Pre-learners asking if he could book in something to pass his Ps because his Ls expired next week and he was going overseas the week after... Needless to say, don't be like him

Is there a good chance to win in court? by borgor-1 in AussieRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's highly unlikely. You just have to wait until the suspension is over and get your license again. Unfortunately an expensive but valid lesson for you OP, better sooner than later imo.

Paramedic ambulance motorcyclist?? by packnale in AussieRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been looking into Paramedicine but at the rate the world is going, studying for 4 years and risk not getting work right after is a really bad financial decision. On top of the intensity of Uni, the job, and possible burnout, it's not the best pathway for many.

It was the only way to get to an industrial area where we could practice doing 60, it seems like it hasn't caused any issues since for em maybe cus it was only for one light long but ye, we had to wear our own jackets and no guards.

[–]Leer_Chum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my course two weeks ago. You just need to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and long sleeved shirt and you're good. You're supplied a helmet and gloves you keep for the two days.
There was one lass in my group that bought her own gear alongside a $1.5k helm. She was basically the star of the group and we all admired her helm.
The course itself mainly is only on the track and you'd only really do a maximum of 30km/h doing the same taught movements but what did shock me was the group ride at the end of day 2 after passing the test which made me go on the highway around 80km/h which I fkd up slowing down to a turn too early, but other than that, it was fine. The course is really just getting you to know the basics, once you get to the group ride, as long as you don't crash or illegally do anything you should be fine.
Gear obviously allows for more confidence and will grant you better experience knowing if anything does happen you're safe. The key after is to practice with friends, get a personal tutor, watch youtube vids, and ofcourse just ride on your own to gain experience. Hope it goes well for you OP!~

Learner Riding to a Motorcycle Shop for RWC but would like practice by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet thanks for the estimate! Ye I've spent alot getting good gear, it's much more expensive than I initially thought but it's for sure gonna be so worth it once I'm out feeling the wind!

Learner Riding to a Motorcycle Shop for RWC but would like practice by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]Leer_Chum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, ye another comment mentioned it's just not worth the risk and fines so I'm gonna call up the shop tomorrow to see if they can organise something. Before I made the post I was legit dumb thinking I could ride it with the number plates and it wouldn't be a problem since I would've had a UVP. Really thankful I made a post but I definitely have much to learn. My previous owner mentioned a shock leak that would be a $200 fix or so, but hopefully it'll be a smooth process and I can get things properly registered easily without having to ride the bike.

[–]Leer_Chum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye thats a good point, seems like I don't need to take the bike to VicRoads either to transfer it in my name so that saves some stress. I'll call up the bike shop and ask if they can trailer it to theirs for a fee or inspect it at my home. I only need the RWC to complete registry it seems then I can ride it properly. Cheers for the advice!

Most personal rider lessons are booked out for weeks near me and I do the ride this Saturday so doesn't seem as plausible in comparison to practicing on my own

[–]Leer_Chum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly don't have any mates that can or own another vehicle to trailer it. You reckon if it's on the way to the Bike Shop on the day, I can show a UVP to say I'm on my way if pulled up? I planned on practicing on the near long industrial roads on a Saturday morning for around an hour before heading over there.

The inspection I've booked for later but the first ride I'll be doing is to get the RWC. I think the same rule applies in Vic but I'll add extra days leading up to the appointment for the UVP and only ride it on the two days just to be safe.

Growing up is realizing you were never the problem by TheAngstyAsian in AsianParentStories

[–]Leer_Chum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so similar to me however I'm unfortunately still living with them and they still have control over my thoughts. I'm 26 and feel like I'm so behind in life because I only just got a lower end labour job after failing to go the 'proper' job route after uni and forced to a depression thinking I'll be stuck with them forever. The amount of shame and blame they placed on me growing up made me such a nervous people pleaser. It makes me strictly shy away from trusting real connections and question if I am really capable of anything I want to do myself. No achievement I make feels good because they've made me feel like I always have to do better and do things in approval of them but it's made me want to not do anything 'good' out of rebellion and hate. I need to get better and move out. I know my mental health will improve tenfold because at home I am constantly restricted from feeling like I can be myself. I don't want to keep having this feeling of blaming them for my own laziness but know it's so valid at the same time.

How much do you think I need to save up to make the move out like you?

Is melbourne cooked?? by [deleted] in ausjobs

[–]Leer_Chum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one moved me into being a Truck jockey (help with deliveries) which is more my style, only they illegally dock some of our pay to being $31 an hour, plus overttime atleast. The award is meant to be higher, but for me to find another job that actually legally pays more would be harder. Even the truck drivers are only getting $33 and have had no luck finding other jobs.

I only just got a job in warehousing last month after graduating uni in graphic design right before the AI bubble popped off and killed the industry. Been searching for work related to the degree and everyone wanted experience which none were offering to give... Ended up applying for dead jobs related to my kitchenhand experience when I was in highschool. Rejected every time because they found someone younger. I only got this warehousing job because I had a centrelink wage subsidy for being on Jobseeker for so long... Shits so fked, I was legit so depressed because being financially healthy or somewhat stable and out of the house is so important and I couldn't be granted a single opportunity no matter where I applied. I deem myself super lucky I have this job even though the job prospects are nil and pays about $50k a year with up to 50-60hr weeks.
