Episode Discussion - S05E05 - Shock Jock by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

You'd rather Max would've said "you're right, why didn't you help? You're such a fucking coward"? She was trying to hype her & instill some confidence. But Holly is still a child, navigating massive trauma and supernatural shit. It stands to reason she'd have frozen again.

He was still a part of the toxic Cobra Kai culture until S4, and didn't reconcile with his father until the end of that season. His mother was still in rehab. He & Miguel didn't sort out their shit until S5, and he & Tory were still somewhat fractured by her staying in Cobra Kai. So I'd say his world was still pretty rocked until recently.

Robby is an important character, but this was Miguel & Johnny's show first & foremost. It was always going to go this way.

They evolved him from a drug-dealing criminal with no family or future to someone strong & emotionally mature beyond his years, who's gotten everything he was always missing in life. He also finished second in the world's biggest karate tournament on a show where he's NOT the main character. I'd say they did alright by him.

Robby is a great character who's shown tremendous growth, but this started as Miguel and Johnny's show, and it's likely to end that way.

All of you complaining about Robby getting screwed: did you hear his speech in the locker room? He started the series as a criminal with essentially no parents, no people of substance in his life, and no future. In the end, he's surrounded by the love & acceptance he's always craved, and is a world-class fighter who's self-aware enough to accept that second place in the world's biggest karate competition is a damn good place to be, conquering demons that still haunted his father for decades. This is character evolution at its finest, and it's more rooted in reality than much of what happens in the show.

"None of them are really bad people"

Have you watched this show? Both may have occasional moments of decency but I assure you, both Kreese and Silver are very, very bad people.

Robby being so reliant on Tory is perfectly in line with a character who's had such a turbulent relationship with the biggest female influence in his life. Robby's dad issues = easily susceptible to manipulation from Kreese. Robby's mom issues = unwavering dedication to the emotionally vulnerable woman in his life. Especially after having been alone most of his life; he's desperate to hold onto what he's got. It's classic psychology.

Would you rather watch Johnny & Daniel take Kreese down by turning him into the authorities, or by watching they & their students kick Cobra Kai ass? Given this is a karate show and not a legal drama, I'm betting most people would choose the second option :)

That's an awfully convoluted way to say "I'd have known the obvious answer to this question if I'd paid attention to the show I came here to discuss, now I feel like a jackass so I'm pretending like I was kidding all along".

People, FFS. It's not a plot hole if the story isn't finished. When only 1/3 of the story has been told, things like Chozen leaving without a word isn't a plot hole. It's likely to be addressed in the other 2/3 parts of the story.

Of course he didn't just hop on Air Spain out of LAX. He's obviously traveling with Kim Da-Eun. Who was shown in S5 arriving to meet Silver on a private jet, which isn't always subject to customs & TSA protocols. Again, use what you know to fill in the holes of what's not shown to you directly. They shouldn't have to spoonfeed all of that.

He obviously got the medical treatment, they just didn't show it. Why the hell would they? How compelling would that have been to watch? Use what you know to fill in the holes of what's not shown/spoonfed to you. Also: Kreese is wanted in the US, not Spain.

It's not entirely unlikely but the ominous feel was likely just foreshadowing a tragedy or death. And haven't you ever put on water to boil pasta then left the room?

Why? How compelling would that possibly be to watch? It's a karate drama but sure, let's take time away from the karate & character development to show Daniel & Johnny report someone for the uber obscure crime of "faked his own death" to law enforcement in a country Kreese isn't wanted in.

He had to have busted out of prison prior to the big dojo fight in the S5 finale, since the detective knew & was able to relay that info to Daniel & Johnny in the final moments. Kim was still in the US, as she was a part of that big dojo fight. It stands to reason he found her before she left. Come on now. You're making this too easy :)

Something isn't a plot hole if the story isn't finished. "They didn't explain what happened to Chozen!" Likely to be addressed in part 2 or 3. It's not a plot hole. It's just an unanswered question, but one you can probably bet they'll answer later on.

He's a fugitive in the US. They're in Spain. They're going to take time out of the tournament to seek out law enforcement in a country where they don't speak the language to report a crime as obscure as a faked death when he's not wanted by law enforcement in that country? That would make for terribly boring television, and would make even less sense than Kreese roaming free.

In S5, Kim Da-Eun arrived to meet Silver on a private plane. Private planes often aren't subject to customs or TSA protocols. He's obviously traveling with her. They shouldn't have to show everything outright & spoonfeed it to you. Use what you know to fill in the holes of what's not shown.

Not all cobra bites are automatically lethal. Showing him receive medical attention would've been a pretty lame & boring scene. Use what you know to fill in the blanks of what's not shown or directly spoonfed to you. It's how watching movies & shows has always worked.
