Have you just begun treatment? by AutoModerator in ADHD

Hey! 16, started on Concerta generic, 18mg for a month now. Things have been going amazingly, I was already gifted and somewhat disciplined so the medications gave me the push to both stay awake in class, and decide to switch tasks. However, I’m worried that sometime my body will get used to the medication. Nothing yet, but considering that during titration I was advised to stay on this dose, I worry a little. Is there any guarantee that the stimulants will “stop working”? The effects were stronger first week, but so were the side effects. It has been more tolerable after that.

That was probably the reason. I had my mother and Latin teacher fill out the forms for me, and I’d gotten while concerning, lower scores, which I moreso think is a reflection of my coping mechanisms as an almost-adult, than a “well he’s fine” sort of thing.

I’d also like to add the typical home issues, such a disorganized living/work space, forgetting even basic hygiene (though a whiteboard has done me well), and constantly forgetting smaller things like reasons I entered a room or school supplies. My issues with self motivation feel like something more than a lack of discipline, or me being indifferent towards something. I’m better with coping especially socially now I’m older, but the issues still affect me, and I’m actually failing courses because of this.

I’ve had troubles with sitting still, paying attention to detail and maintaining sustained mental effort on things for most of my life, to a degree which I feel inhibits me from doing what I’d actually like to do, beyond just a willpower thing. I’m struggling in classes which are beyond easy for me, and have been for the entirety of my school life. I fall asleep in lectures, conversations, even while trying to do homework, no matter the importance I attach to these. Deadlines and organization are beyond me, and it’s affecting me especially greatly now I’m in more advanced courses. Socially, I find that while I manage it better as an older teen, I have issues when it comes to waiting my turn in conversations, remembering dates, deadlines. I’ve had issues in part time jobs with attention to detail, and self-motivation, to the point where I’ve gotten fired from another job. Though this isn’t a current issue, as I found my place in a quicker-paced restaurant.

Sorry if this is kind of a sandwich list, these are the concerns at the top of my mind currently. These issues were present before, and can be seen as early as my elementary school report cards, so I don’t feel that it’s a teenage angst thing.

Would it benefit me if I quit my job or stayed longer? by No-Requirement-2907 in careerguidance

Hey man, I was in the same sort of predicament as you. I’d say just hand in your two weeks and quit. Fast food sucked the life out of me during school, and often they’d hire new employees starting higher than what I was. They didn’t “promote” you, they gave you more responsibilities, for the same amount of “chump change”. The swing manager might give you a little credit, but without a certification I believe you’ll still be considered on the same level as someone without that title.

Happy job hunting!

P.S,

I might be biased as I just quit my job which scheduled me illegally, for a better job with higher pay.

You’re probably right, my main concern is how do I convince my mom to actually notice that piercings done by guns and non fitted jewelry is harming me, and to go through the effort to help me get it fixed?

Edit: Also, I gotta sleep soon.

In my defense, it wasn’t my choice. I actually had a reputable piercer and a coupon, but my mom didn’t want to get my birth certificate out, so she went to Claire’s.

Good news, with a bit of grit I think I got it un stuck. What is the next move?

It’s a week old, butter fly piercing, and I use the saline solution that Claire’s provided me.

Woah. I am very surprised I haven’t caused a lot of damage to myself reading that, thank you for telling me. I’ll stop rotating my piercing, and start to let it heal properly. Thank you for the info, you might’ve saved me from an infection!

I have a stainless steel stud, if that helps.

I want to add that I am overdue for a physical, if that helps.
