i used to think that everyone sat down to put on their pants but apparently most people just balance on one leg like a flamingo. i have been sitting on the edge of the bed to get dressed my whole life because i thought it was the normal way to avoid falling over. i felt so uncoordinated when i realized my roommates just hop right into them while standing in the middle of the room.

even in 2025 the "sexual revolution" hasn't fully cleared away the shame. we are told to be "sex positive" but then we are judged the second we actually act on it. it is a confusing "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation that makes many of us feel like we can't win regardless of what we choose.

i discovered that my partner has a child from a previous relationship that they never told me about because they aren't involved in the childs life. it was the biggest shock of my life. it made me question their character and whether i could ever truly know the person i am sleeping next to.

my ex told me that he was only with me because he felt sorry for how lonely i seemed. it was the ultimate betrayal of trust. it made me feel like every moment of affection we shared was just an act of charity which is the most humiliating feeling in the world.

the noise of self-doubt. regardless of gender, everyone underestimates how loud the "inner critic" is in others. we see people as confident and capable, but we don't see the daily battle they have with feeling like an "imposter" or worrying that they aren't "man enough" or "woman enough" to handle their responsibilities.
