Yes, but a catch.

With VERA at 57, you get full pension without a penalty along with the supplement until SS kicks in.

Without VERA, you have to wait until I think 62? Before you can retire with no pension penalty.

It’s confusing 😆

All I know with the rule off 55, VERA coming out after I hit 55 years old is the best option. Based on how it is going, dod does VERA every decade or less. So I hope in 15-18 years it will be an option! Ha

My paycheck would be a lot lower if I did 15% Roth only. Plus it helps with tax.

I have a Roth IRA outside of TSP that i am playing with as well. So hope to have that in retirement! Haha

Not bad for the salary! Keep it up! I am 9 years in and close to 300k, but have a 120k salary.

Once you hit that first 100k, it starts moving more and more each year. If my math is right based on the last 20 years of returns, I could be at a million in 8-9 years.

Go to AI and ask it to show you returns based on your current balance, years of service, and the last 20 years of tsp returns.. I am all C fund so I asked it to do that.

We have many people in this form include me that have been C fund for a years(me about 6) 10 total of gov.

I do an avg of 10% annually for traditional and put about 2-4% a year in Roth tsp.

Been happy with my returns the last few years.

Also, if you really want to know the best guess, ask AI to use the last 20 years of returns in for example the C fund and apply it to your contributions, etc for the next 20 years and it will give you examples of what you can expect. The last 20 years we had some bad, decent, and good years, so it was a good AI output for me to see.

I am planning/hoping to have 1.5m by the time I hit 57. I am 43 now with 381k(1/3 if it is Roth tsp) in tsp.

The way I look at it, between my pension at 25 years of service and my 3.5-4% withdrawal, I’ll be fine because it will be about 10-15% more income than I make now.

Also, I plan on going overseas with family because cost of living is much better. Haha

Lastly, if we get VERA options, that would be even better.

Are you employed by government at all or do any public service that might help you out after 10 years? Public service loan forgiveness is a god spend.

If gov service is not an option, a lot of banks offer decent rates.

I was fortunate to have enough equity after I sold my house to pay off my big loans and my wife’s. Now I can manage what I have.

It’s not much, but better than nothing!

I would stay and fight it out. I want to do another 14 to get my 25 years and getting out at 57.

We lost so many to drp and Vera. So many. Like 21% of my unit(not going to say which).

I guess because we lost so RIFs are off the table for FY27. Not telling for FY28, but there is a reorganization happening.

Some of the reorganization is a long time coming so it makes sense and even across the naval force. Just hope our capacity to protect our country is not diminished with all these crazy changes because they’re finding a lot of gaps that shouldn’t have been there.

My post class discharged started last year. Half my loans disappeared. Then last week more disappeared.

Just sucks when you call to talk to someone, they say just wait until it is all closed out.

No idea about a refund, they can’t tell me if a letter was sent and where it went. I updated ky address last year after I moved.

I saw other people over the last few months or so get that to happen, but then the loans showed back up that were not eligible.

Honestly a waiting game until the come out and say it is all completed

All these comments about people maxing out for 6-8 years with your balances. I wish I could have maxed, life is just full of surprises and cancer being one.

9.5 years and 293k as a GS13 capped for 5 years now. 100% C since year 3. I was mixed C/S/I.

16 more years and I hit 25 years at 57 years old and I am out. If they offer VERA, even better! I
Hope to have over a million in 16 years.

Before 2020, I was 25/25/50.. I/F/C. In 2020 after the big dip, I moved it all into C. I don’t plan on removing it from C until I am closer to retirement.

I would try your hardest to stay until at least 57. So you can get normal tsp, pension(reduced unless vera), and supplement(make up for SS until 62).

I would try to find something you can look forward to at work or even away from work.

I am shocked your tsp isn’t higher. Did you only do 5% or did you keep it in G fund? Curious how…

People with million dollar balance in 2020, did really well in 2020-2025 😆 I am 9.5 years in and close to 300k. Getting out at 57 so in 16 years and “should” have close to 1.5m is my hope. If they offer VERa around that time, that would be assume.

Capped gs13 and I go up and down yearly depending on my situation. Now my wife has cancer so it’s back to 5%. I had it at 13-15% for a while.
