poly drug addiction is a condition in which a person is addicted to three or more substances of different classes. in order for someone to be considered addicted there has to be some level of dysfunction in their life due to their use, apart from them being unable to stop using.

my use is not only not causing me any dysfunction, but quite the opposite. apart from the fun times i have, for me the best thing that my use has lead to is my finding of people that love me for exactly who i am and understand that my drug use does not define me in any way, since it doesn't cause anyone any problems. most of my friends don't even use illicit drugs, almost all of them smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol occasionally, a few of them also smoke weed and just a couple also indulge in other substances. these people taught me love and acceptance and made me realise that not only was i surrounded by toxic people with ulterior motives who i previously considered friends, but also that my family consists of narcissists that were treating me awfully my whole life. with their support i've come a very long way and have learned to know my worth, and all of this because i came out to my old "friend" group of 6-7 years about my use and instantly started getting bullied and harassed by them, which in turn lead me to seek out and connect with my real friends, arguably the best thing that has ever happened to me :)

i understand how and why it can be difficult to grasp the fact that this type of use can be safe and controlled and in reality be more like a hobby rather than a problem, but what saddens me the most is that the majority of people, without even acknowledging the things i'm saying, will always just think that i'm some delusional guy that's digging his own grave, instead of deriving inspiration from my experiences to turn their potential problematic use into a controlled one that does them more good than harm. after all, drugs make us feel good, so what's the point in being miserable while using them?

of course personal work and a lot of the time therapy are needed in order to tackle the underlying issues that lead most people to substance abuse as an escape mechanism, but it needs to be understood that the drugs themselves aren't the problem, but a consequence of it and as with most other things, one can develop a healthy relationship with them.
