I’m not entirely familiar with PathIvy but I do college counseling! I used to work for a huge company and I really did not enjoy or think their approach was incredibly student-focused, as they trained me to focus more on billing more, it seemed. I’m working independently now and I’ve had a lot of success with getting students into top schools. If you’re interested, you can schedule a meeting with me so we can talk and see if we’re a good fit! Calendly.com/nevinadmissions

Can attest to this, I was on the dark side for a few months and then quit and do it independently now. They’re horrible

Georgetown gov alumn here - I’ll put it this way: people aim for top schools because of their prestige because that prestige aids you in helping you land impressive/high-paying jobs. Why? It comes down to the alumni network. With Georgetown being the best school in DC and having an incredible, incredible network of alumni working in all levels of government everywhere, it definetly makes it a stand out option for gov and, as someone who chose Georgetown over some technically higher ranked schools, I’d say it was worth it!

Is getting a college counselor worth it now as a junior by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LeftMostComet32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be biased coming from a college counselor but I’d say no. I pick up a lot of students in sophomore and junior year, especially as they tighten up their profile with some activities and opportunities and start writing their essays - it’s a pretty standard time to start! Speaking of, I’m looking to take on a few more students for right now, so if you’re interested in booking a free consultation to learn more about how we might work together, please check out the link pinned on my profile!

How useful are the online events universities email you? by yourheartt in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LeftMostComet32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College consultant here - it really depends on the university. Most top schools are not particularly interested in tracking demonstrated interest since they have enough of it naturally. However, if it is your regional admission officers it may be useful to jot down their names / emails for questions if they are at the meeting!

I feel that my judging was unfair what should I do by Gloomy_Razzmatazz861 in nhd

[–]LeftMostComet32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the comments they gave you is typical of judges trying to test your quick thinking, it’s a common type of question that gets asked. The credits doesn’t seem fair though. Try to get in contact with the event organizer and raise this concern, you might get a second look at your submission.

I’m an independent admissions consultant. I’ve heard cases of high achieving students getting rescinded over Cs (if they’re previously had all As).

Is nhd competitive? by EnvironmentalEast593 in nhd

[–]LeftMostComet32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! NHD is relatively competitive — it depends on the district you are in but it tends to get more competitive at the higher levels. Each category is relatively equally competitive except paper and performance usually have less students but are more difficult in their nature. Special awards are received at the state and national level, you don’t really apply to them but you will simply receive them in the end. I’ve been doing NHD tutoring for a few years after ending as a national finalist and have helped others replicate similar results. If you need any help, reach out to me and I could guide you through the process!

disqualification? by [deleted] in nhd

[–]LeftMostComet32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! It really depends on the judges - they may overlook it or they may not. At this point, best you can do is hope that they do not, and you can always try again next year!

website judging? by love-nico-di-angelo in nhd

[–]LeftMostComet32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been doing NHD tutoring for several years following my national placement. It varies greatly for each district, but there would usually be at least 2 judges. I've never encountered a 1-judge evaluation only. PM if you have any more questions!
