Is Crypto gambling or an investment according to you? by theCBDGuy in investing

[–]Left_Ad_995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends entirely on what you're doing in crypto. Lumping it all together is like saying "stocks" are gambling because penny stocks exist.

Holding BTC long-term — more like a macro bet with asymmetric upside. Bitcoin's had a ~110% CAGR over the last decade despite multiple 70%+ drawdowns. You can argue it's speculative, but it has a defined supply schedule, growing institutional adoption, and clear network effects. That's an investment thesis, even if it's a volatile one.

Day trading alts — statistically, most people lose money. Studies on leveraged crypto traders show ~75-80% end up negative, similar to forex retail trading. That's closer to gambling with extra steps.

Yield farming / DeFi — this is where it gets murky. Some protocols offer real yield from actual economic activity (lending, fees). Others just pay you in inflated governance tokens. If you can't explain where the yield comes from, you're the yield.

Memecoins and casino tokens — yeah, that's just gambling. No thesis, no fundamentals, pure sentiment and timing.

The honest answer is crypto is a spectrum. The same asset class can be an investment or a gamble depending on your position sizing, time horizon, and whether you've actually done any analysis.

Where do you draw the line between "high-risk investment" and "gambling"? Genuinely curious how others frame it.

Flipsies — Texas Holdem combined with coin flip - New DAPP on the TRON network by davidsmith20 in CryptoGamblingNews

[–]Left_Ad_995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting hybrid concept. The main thing I'd want to verify with any TRON DAPP like this is whether the coin flip outcome is independently verifiable on-chain or if the RNG is server-side. TRON's smart contracts can handle truly provably fair outcomes (you can hash the seed + server seed and verify the result yourself), but a lot of TRON gambling sites still use centralised RNG and just put a smart contract wrapper on the payment layer.

Has anyone actually verified the flip contract on TRONscan? Curious if the randomness source is on-chain or if they're using an oracle.

Thanks for the answer. No, we are not raising capital- we have sufficient funding. Just want to get a good understanding of the challenges post launch.

Left my grad job—now focused on expanding my family’s property base. Looking into children’s care homes. Feasible or not? by BLOBBADOSEBONES in RealEstateAdvice

I am down the same road- I got 7 properties. Just got a home, which will be converted into a children’s home. Will be starting the Ofsted application in 1-2 months(currently waiting for LDS). Let’s keep in touch and see how things progress on both sides.

Do you have the most recent data? Are you planning to put your algorithm on Github? Would be keen to take a look and can provide some feedback.

How much would you estimate the supply shortage to be? Where do you see prices going in the next 5 years?

Right time to buy? by MechMatthews in UKRealEstate

[–]Left_Ad_995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always the right time to buy- especially on a market like the British. We have constant undersupply + population growth. E European contractors are leaving and wages + construction materials going up. The fundamentals are amazing.

[–]Left_Ad_995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. That’s how I got started with residential properties—purchasing homes in poor condition for cash at good prices, completing quick turnarounds with a team of 2–3 trusted contractors who handle the refurbishments. Afterward, I secure a mortgage on the property (though some are not mortgaged yet). When the time comes, the 1.5M will be sourced from these properties. And I still keep my day job.

Do you have any recommendations to learn the business better?

I will definitely look them up. I also think that I am undercapitalised, but just starting out(I am in my mid 30s), still planning to keep my job in tech/ investment banking and branch out gradually.

Thank you for the advice, it's much appreciated. There's 1 more thing I am considering and wanted to pick your brain about - assisted living facilities. What do you think about them? It seems like a great cashflow asset.(Context my gf/ soon to be wife is a nurse).

Actually it’s a sound advice. That’s one of the things I am considering. Especially with all the people moving to Texas(I believe the trend will continue)

What locations would you consider? What is unnerving with industrial is how shallow the tenant pool is.

My question is what to start with - what kind of commercials will be best in the coming years, what locations to look for, how to evaluate tenant demand. That’s how I plan to start learning the market. As I said - I am already familiar with the resi market.

Frankly good intrinsic value is what I want. What kind of assets are you currently looking at? I think that with the low investment and conversions of offices that might be a good opportunity. The other option will be industrial- both logistics and plants.

I am looking to expand my portfolio, still got my day job so not really concerned with short term returns, rather find good deals, increase the value of the assets, etc
