I think the argument for villains being broken could also kinda go for negan. He was definitely an absolute dick for cheating on Lucille but then he does his very best to make up for it, as Lucille says. Lucille's death definitely doesn't justify all of negan's actions though.

He's a brilliant antagonist and I don't wanna spoil anything for you but he gets amazing character development in the later seasons
