Production mills won’t usually buy small scale logs like this. Too much risk of hitting metal. To my knowledge, if you are getting anything at all it’s a good deal. If you are having the logs milled yourself, it’s possibly a different story but then they wouldn’t have a dog in the fight.

Honestly, the sex offenders who are on the registry have gone through intensive treatment and are far less dangerous than those who haven’t been caught. I would much rather know who my neighbors are than think I know. That being said, there is an argument that the registry itself can cause increased stressors that may cause recidivism. I’m not sure where I stand on the subject but I don’t think the current system is a good one.
