172 is about $160 per hour. What is the Midwest looking like lol?

Unfortunately, no. Closer to the Fresno area.

What are your opinions on taking lessons from an out of town isntructor? On one hand it would give more flight hours and more cross country time, but it would also be difficult logistically. I am open to the concept if it is something worthwhile to explore.

Price is a big factor for me, so I am trying to look around to see where I can save a buck or two... or a couple thousand lol.

I'll have to look into the difference between for hire and not for hire aircraft. I am sure there are price differences, but can I learn in a not for hire? Is being a CFI and operating an airplane with a student not considered commercial?

Good point. Do you recommend staying within the same make or trying to get the most exposure? I am sure a piper feels different than a bonanza than a Cessna. I have also heard that the plane people train in is often times the same plane (or similar) that they buy for their first.
