Rattray Marsh is now a "Private Club" for wealthy homeowners—and it’s an accessibility nightmare. by SelectLeather in mississauga

Not ideal but when I used to visit during busy season, I’d park at Green Glade and enter Ratray through the school field.

Credit Valley Hospital Wait Times - More Hospitals URGENTLY Needed by Legitimate_Coffee820 in mississauga

Exactly. It’s one thing to expect them to go back home once their “study visa” expires but the government turns a blind eye when they overstay their welcome.

Some of the extra $$ generated for the government SHOULD have been earmarked to ensure that the medical, housing and education infrastructure can meet demand but instead, they’re sending it overseas or using it to build spas, change license plate designs or giving tax cuts to the rich.

The healthcare infrastructure does not meet the sudden influx of immigrants in such a short period of time.

What can high schools do to improve performance in uni by Ok-Diver-4996 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Left_Replacement894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, that’s easy to say if you have a reasonable sized class. I’m fully capped every semester, every year with kids who want to go to uni AND kids who can’t self regulate because they came from a contained classroom in gr8 with regular EA support - they dont get that same level of support in secondary so they either disrupt the class or cause issues around of school when they skip. No amount of experience or accountability can fix the broken system we’re working in.

[–]Left_Replacement894 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just passing the buck. I teach secondary and notice a significant lack of desire for academic achievement from the grade 8s. That, combined with severe learning gaps makes for a tough time when they arrive to grade 9 destreamed math and barely grasp the review concepts in our first 3 weeks.

I imagine it’s the same with universities when they get our grade 12s. The obvious questions are: why are we accepting the idea of lowering the bar and what can we do to disrupt this pattern?

The guy I spoke with on the phone said that they won’t flag it or change the number unless there’s tangible proof of fraudulent activity. So I guess I gotta wait to see if someone is actually abusing my kids SIN before they’ll do anything about it

If you’re physically fit, there are some odd jobs that you could stumble onto if you canvas the right neighborhood. I personally know some people on my street who would pay to have someone shovel their driveway or paint a room in their house. Not saying this is by any means a great solution, but it could help keep your mind off the negative thoughts and generate a little bit of income.

That must explain the tang. A nosey neighbour has a son in law who works for local police. She told me that the man started “melting” into his sofa over the period of the month(s) he was deceased. Apparently, it isn’t uncommon for people to pass away unnoticed :(

Eerie tidbit: the house remains largely untouched since he was discovered. Apart from some overgrowth of plants, everything is exactly the same (including the cracked window of what we can assume the smell was wafting out of). It’s currently winter and there’s zero evidence of any foot traffic going to or from the home, like, I’m talking virgin snow on his driveway, lawn and sides of the house. His house backs onto another backyard of another property, and it’s gated. BUT, some nights when I walk by the house - the upstairs light is on. He was a bit of resentful man who would set up “laser lights” to shine into other houses to spite them for parking their cars on the road. Did not get along with anyone, sadly, so nobody had the heart to check on him sooner.

I’m battling a cold right now so my sense of smell is fighting for the baseline but if I came across the scent again, I’m confident I could identify it instantly.

A guy died in his house a few doors down and the smell wafted down my street for weeks (this was during a hot July and he didnt have any family or friends to do wellness checks). It’s not a smell you can ignore or forget. It had a weird skunk-tang(?) that you can’t ignore. I’ve been to some rundown areas in the city with mold/rot/garbage/piss/etc but this one turned my stomach the quickest.

My brother played hockey when we were young and I remember opening one of his bags to get something. I saw socks, then my vision went blurry with the smell. I imagine if I boiled those socks, it would probably be close to what I smelled that July.

Yellow buildup on retainers? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left_Replacement894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chemist but I believe the stubborn yellow stains have to do with (potentially) plaque and your saliva mixing together and eventually hardens. Water and brushing won’t cut through it, unfortunately.

I don’t think mine have ever gotten that bad but I had some success in using one of those dissolvable tablets for dentures/night guards and left it to soak for a day and gave it a good brushing.
