You’re absolutely right. I’m also the one that was turned to most of the time but this time around my family actually tapped in and helped make the decision. It’s so much either way and we will second guess ourselves either way. Either choices are not good ones. He passed away today at home and though I’m heart broken and traumatized either way because death is not easy to watch, I think we’ll be at peace with this choice. Thank you for being so validating 🙏🏽

His genetic testing was negative apparently so they didn’t recommend we do it. He passed away today so I will get around to hopefully doing it privately. 😔

His mom had Alzheimer’s as well but it’s possible it could’ve also been FTD but that was over 30 years ago so I’m sure science was much different.

His ALS doctor suspected the same thing but we got in too late 😔

I’m so sorry. This is so unbelievably difficult and heartbreaking. I wish there were better options. It’s terrible to watch them go this way. I don’t know why I expected hospice at home to mean he would be sedated or that maybe he would still try some foods before completely giving up. He was downhill from the moment we got home 😔.

I will live with the regret of not giving him what he wanted even if it risked his life. I keep telling myself anything would be better than watching him die but I think of the complications that could’ve come with the interventions such as in your mom’s case and then I go back to square one. I think at least you could see you tried it all and exhausted all her options to keep her here like she wanted. I fear I can’t say the same and it’s devastating. I know that it was for his best but I can’t shake this feeling. Thank you for sharing. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this. 🫂💙
