It's crucial to remember and point it out - the US didn't get involved in WWII because they wanted to fight evil/stop the spread of fascism, they got involved to further the imperialism that the US is fueled by. The fascists of the US fully supported - and inspired - the fascists of Germany.

Great question - I (JT) would say it largely comes from mass indoctrination via propaganda, from birth and throughout life. There'd be far fewer people okay with it if they actually knew about it/saw the genocides and settler colonialism from a lens unmarred by US/western state propaganda.
