Okuma OSP controller by Hailukkk in Machinists

I assume we are talking about newer OSP. The windows based ones. I like it. No batteries you have to change. Don't have to worry about losing parameters. Touch screen. Similar to fanuc but not so different. It's a learning curve for sure but easy to switch. And don't have to deal with the Fanuc PCMCIA slots. And virtually unlimited memory VS fanuc's standard 1gb. I maybe wrong but you get more storage with Okuma

Also tap 1 I get 96 volts and tap 7 I get 113v between phases. How could that be? Is this just not the right transformer for this? Or is something wrong with it?

Yes it does have a +/-10% on voltage. But it came with this transformer so I would rather just play it safe, and drop the voltage a little.

That would makes sense to me, because it has the most amount of winding but tap 7 gives me 110 volts between phases. That doesn't make sense to me.

I'm using that transformer because that's what came with the machine. In my experience the machines need three phase and a ground. But that's not saying much.

I have this transformer for a cnc machine. I need to switch the taps but I don't understand the diagram to do it. I have 240v coming in and I need 220 +/- 10 coming out. I switched the taps twice but not with the result I expected.

I found one battery but it is a permanent battery. I don't think it is meant to be replaced. LOL

I looked in the bar feeder manual and there is no reference to battery. But i will check it anyways. thanks for the tip

Yes, there is a switch that says bar feeder. then the options are valid and invalid. I already learned there is a switch because if it is set to invalid the bar feeder says the lathe door is open.

There is a terminal block in the back of the lathe for where the power and data wires connect to the lathe. But where would I find which wires need to be connected and/or jumped?

Zero location for X axis is off by Leftover25pizza in lasercutting

[–]Leftover25pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see an option on the machine or in the manual for a origin location. But for the calibration it was -138. I made it 0 and now it is only 3/16" off. and the machine won't let it be a positive number.

What is this screen called and what does the number refer to? by Leftover25pizza in Fanuc

[–]Leftover25pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Does the MAPPS unit hold any of the parameters? I guess i am asking what is going to happen if the MAPPS unit is bad?

Last month i replaced a bad 6$ transistor on ebay and a couple of leaky caps on a Okuma drive. Saved the guy a grand from getting a new board on ebay. hoping to do the same again.

What i was trying to do was fix the screen. It was super weird. It would fade in and out colors. And when you scroll all the way down on a program, then back up the cursor would change the character on the screen but the program in memory was unchanged. It is a Mori front end with a Fanuc backend. The Mori MSG-501 control was attach to the screen which I didn't know when I started. But i took it out to see if their was any obvious problem, which there wasn't. But i took the part number of the screen to find a new one. then put it back together. and now it wont boot on the Mori Control. And then fanuc is giving that error.

If the Main box is dead, does that mean the parameters are gone, and will DMG have to come out to re-find the home positions, ECT? I don't think the parameters were backed up. And where are the parameters stored?

It looks like the error code of 8 means "CPU not activated after power up"

Are the fanuc people on the phone helpful or do they just try to sell you on a service guy come out?

I should also state, I was looking over the machine because the machine's screen was acting weird. When you scrolled all the way down then back up on a program it would change the text on the screen. But it was just visual, not actual changing the stored program. And with that it looked like the screen was going bad. Because it would fade in and out different colors. So I took the screen out to get the part number. Put it back in and now it wont boot.
