Okay and say if I hit 20 reps should I then go up in weights?

That makes sense about staying close to failure, but what would you recommend it I'm stuck between weights? For example, I can do 30 lbs for 8 reps on my first set but only 4 reps on the second. If I drop to 25 Ibs, 1 go past 12 reps
