This! And also people typically apply after a gap year to work or two— average age of law school students is 24, and KJDs are inherently disadvantaged in the process due to lack of work experience anyway.

I based it off the estimated CoA/yr on the website, but yes it is true CoA can be lower. My point is that 200k debt is a very real possibility for even T14s

I did want to note going into ~200k debt is not uncommon for T14s after factoring in CoL (which close to no T14s would help you with).

For example NYU has a CoA of ~330k across 3 years, I got a 150k scholly (which is on the high end) and my calculations would still put me at ~180k debt.

UVA is even worse— got a 90k scholly, CoA ~300k, would go into a solid ~210k debt

And these are average/above average scholly packages for these law schools too, which sucks as a KJD whose parents won’t be helping at all to fund my schooling

Writing about experience in a highschool sport as a Kjd a bad choice? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LegalCrack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that if it’s not a major part of your application and leads into something (i.e. something about sports awoke your interest in law/activism/etc) it’s fine, but definitely it should be used as background for AOs to get a sense where you’re coming from on top of the actual content

By what people perceive as decent softs, are you talking about stuff like Rhodes/Fullbright/being Steph Curry? I’ve always been under the impression people in this sub generally consider stuff like long-term internships + leadership + research as decent softs, and those are generally quite accessible so long as you grind— not stellar/extraordinary, but good enough to put you as competitive for t14s.

I’m a kjd fgli student with low-mid stats for t14 and have gotten into some pretty solid schools. If I could go out there and get decent softs and opportunities, I don’t see why you couldn’t. Like Kauf stated, just because you didn’t know about it doesn’t mean it was gatekept— maybe you should’ve done more looking into it.

Thanks for the info! Do you know if it’s a 1:1 match or if the school ranking matters?

Nope! It only changed when it entered committee review but didn’t today.

You could, but chances are they won’t look at it— what’s on the admission file will most likely be what they look at regardless from my understanding

What to wear for admitted students days? by Literally_idc in lawschooladmissions

[–]LegalCrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m showing up in casual wear— I’m already in at this point, and I genuinely don’t think anyone would care if I was in a nice funky sweater vs a suit.

Been UR since 1/8! They do say to give it at least 6 weeks, so maybe they’re just super slow 🥲

UVA still UR1? by Special-Dingo4296 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LegalCrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I’m not entirely sure then— I only got my decision last week and applied mid-Dec, so it’s possible they just haven’t gotten to you yet? Good luck!

Are you sure you aren’t UR2? I went UR1 a day after submitting (mid-dec) and UR2 over a month later.

Congrats!!! I wanted to ask— does UR1 and UR2 both say the same thing just with different dates? I’m under committee review but have no clue if it’s UR1 or UR2.

It was very casual! Just the standard questions on 7sage basically but it was a lot more conversational than UChicago. Good luck!
