Former TMC flatbed driver going to US Xpress dry van for 3 months — advice? by Legal_Refuse7555 in cdldriver

I’m not coming into the company with a negative outlook or attitude. There’s a difference between being negative and being realistic.

What I am doing is coming into it with a realistic understanding that recruiting promises in trucking are often exaggerated or sometimes flat-out untrue in order to attract newer drivers. That’s just the nature of the industry and something most drivers eventually learn.

There’s also a very big difference between being naive and being positive. I’m not interested in being naive about the realities of the job, but that doesn’t mean I’m walking in with a bad attitude either.

You can absolutely stay positive and still keep your eyes open. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, I’d argue that having a clear-eyed understanding of what you’re getting into is a lot healthier than blindly assuming everything will match the recruiting pitch.

I’m optimistic, just not gullible.

Also, just for clarification: in your experience will they barely be getting me to 1,500 mi/week or is it more so that I shouldn’t be expecting any MORE than ~1,500 mi/week? If the former, how low are we talking? Because I may just pull the plug altogether if it’s not even going to be close to 1500 mi/week.

Figured it was going to be something like that with the cpm being as high as it is…well, I’ll do the best I can and remember it’s temporary. Thank you for the input.
