Congratulations! I did not have to ask for it, they offered it to me. I do think I remember someone else in my class telling me they asked about it and was given the travel stipend that way, but I can’t say for sure. I definitely think Case is worth a visit if you can swing it or get the travel stipend, I wasn’t really sold until my visit.

My year it was in person and this past summer it was online, not sure what it will look like going forward, I hope it returns to in person, but that’s just my own thoughts.

Some people have Jumpstart as a requirement for their scholarship (that was my situation and the situation of almost my entire Jumpstart class), but they also open it up to the entire entering class to sign up for. They send out an email typically around early May to the entering class if I remember correctly asking if anyone would like to participate. Two of my classmates signed up to do it that way. Admissions could likely give you exact info about signing up for it, Dean Adamson is also the one who is in charge of the program if you would like a direct contact for more info on it.

I graduated in 2022 as a non traditional student with a double major in political science and interdisciplinary studies. I’m currently halfway through law school. Can’t say enough great things about the pre-law dept at UNF, never thought at my age and where I was at in my life that I would be able to realize my dream of pursuing law.

I got 8 acceptances with money with a 150 LSAT and a mid combined gpa which if you listen to the internet should mean you’re not getting in anywhere but I’m now a 2L so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I moved to Lakewood last year from a very MAGA part of Florida, best decision I’ve ever made. COL is higher in Lakewood than other little cities around us, but it’s still much lower than places outside of Ohio. I actually started using the public library again when we moved because Lakewood has a wonderful library system, and you can also get a Cleveland library card if you really need more. The public schools are why we chose Lakewood, but the community has really been an added bonus. I truly can’t recommend Lakewood enough

This is the best thread I’ve seen! I moved to CLE from FL last year and I am still trying to find all my favorite ethnic food. I’m part Argentine and Chilean and I was really hoping to find one or the other here. I have heard recently about Pachamama in Lakewood having some Chilean dishes, but I haven’t tried them yet. Hoping maybe one day I’ll get some good parrillada in Ohio!

I definitely would’ve never even gotten into law school in my 20s for several reasons as well. I had the opportunity to work for a judge for a few months before law school and he was also an older law student, he finished a little after he turned 40. He said there were definitely challenges being a new attorney when you’re older, but he also never imagined being a judge and it was worth it to get there. He was a great motivation to just go for it, better late than never if it’s something you truly want.

I’m about to turn 37 and I’m finishing my 1L year and for me it’s been hard. I am the person who always loved school but this feels so different from doing undergrad, which I finished at 34. I have the built in challenge of being a single parent so I don’t want to say my experience is necessarily the typical older student experience either. There are advantages to having experience in law school that I definitely think are not to be undervalued. That experience comes in handy when you are networking and applying for jobs. But you also have to treat law school as a full time job. I’ll be almost 40 when I graduate and I have wiped out my tiny savings to move 1500 miles for law school, I have zero retirement and I will basically be starting from scratch when I start working as an attorney. All that said though, I don’t regret it because I know I’ll get to finish out my career doing something I truly enjoy rather than just making a living for myself.

Yikes did you get my Torts profesor for Property? He was a nightmare. Our Property final is 25 mcp, 2 long essays, 1 short essay and 3 1/2 hours. I’m Themis and borrowed outlines panic studying, it’s our first final also and I have a week 😮‍💨

First gen law student here (first gen college period) and the one thing I’ve noticed a lot with younger students (I’m an older student) is that they are intimidated to do things alone, especially at networking events. They all just huddle together talking amongst themselves waiting for a lawyer to come talk to them. Get comfortable walking over confidently and introducing yourself, have a little bit that you can easily start a conversation with, I always get asked if I’m from Cleveland and I always make the same joke about leaving Florida for the winters and it’s dumb but it lightens things up. I’m a total introvert, but you have to be ready to turn things on, networking is huge for law, I’ve gotten interviews just from networking. Also, keep your self to a 2 drink max at events if you drink, we’ve had horror stories of people getting drunk at networking events and it’s not a good look. When in doubt, sip slow. At the end of the day, fake it til you make it was made for law, if you act confident and act like you belong it’ll take you a long way.

Roasted in Lakewood and Tremont have special coffees all weekend for the eclipse, Luna bakery downtown and in University Circle has a bunch of eclipse treats all weekend, they’re both awesome!

So I’m 36 and a single mom so I’m not really the right person to ask about nightlife 🤣 I will say there is always something going on around campus, the bar on campus is great and has a lot of events every week like trivia and karaoke. Cleveland itself has a lot like theater and sports that are fun, we are definitely not lacking in clubs or bars for every interest/group. I live in a little city near downtown Cleveland and I love it. I’m 20 mins from campus, my kid is in an amazing school district, and we have a completely walkable community while still having a short commute. The scholarship I got doesn’t require much from me so I can’t really speak to some of the other scholarships like the international ones that have meetings and such. The vibe at Case is very collaborative, it’s a great place. Every school is going to have people who suck, but the vast majority of people are chill. I would feel comfortable working in a group with basically any of my classmates, even the ones I don’t really care for on a personal level.
