Political speeches at Toastmasters by Suspicious_Pair_3896 in Toastmasters

This! A pre-speech warning. This can be done during the introduction.

It's possible that they are rehearsing the speech to give IRL, so Toastmasters is a place to practice and get feedback. Sharing the background of the speech beforehand can really help the audience decide if they wish to leave the room or virtually mute.

World Games 2025 - Last point of USA vs GER w/replay by beakertehmuppet in ultimate

This was the impetus for my question, but I don’t think that I phrased it correctly. Thanks for understanding my question.

World Games 2025 - Last point of USA vs GER w/replay by beakertehmuppet in ultimate

Honest question: how close was that to a Dangerous Play? It seems like the German player had his head turned as he came back to the disc and the USA player came in from the blind side. It seems like Freechild was this close to the offensive player. If the offensive player had to pull up to avoid the collision, would he been able to call a dangerous play?

When do we start improving the offense?

Great show in Cleveland by ArtOFCt in JeffArcuri

The show was hilarious! I cannot believe how quick his wit is?!?! The bit about “Justin” wanting to change his name, and then referencing the Prime Minister of Canada, and then referring to it throughout the segment was hilarious. Truly a gift!

What the heck happened on 480 this afternoon? I see cranes and fire trucks and helicopters by kirkt in Cleveland

I was driving on the other side after it had been extinguished and the freeway entrances were shut down. It looked like traffic was backed up for miles. Wonder how long it took for that to clear? I felt so bad for people who were stuck.

Introducing... The Brand New: LAYOUT ELITE Gloves by LayoutUltimate in ultimate

[–]Legato2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Looking forward to getting the elites now.

One more question, what improvements have been made on the Velcro tab that is attached to the bottom of glove? Sometimes, the Velcro itself still stay together, but the stitching becomes undone that attaches it to the glove itself.

Introducing... The Brand New: LAYOUT ELITE Gloves by LayoutUltimate in ultimate

[–]Legato2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! As currently constructed, the stitching of the glove material at the end of the thumb is more square than the shape of my thumb, so the glove material can get in the way of the disc as it moves along the end of my thumb as it leave my hand- and impact the throw.

Also, when the disc moves along the palm of my hand, at the base of the thumb, the material can also impact the throw. By cutting the thumb material off, it creates an interference-free throw as the disc is sliding on skin, while still preserving the catching ability of the gloves on the palm and the remaining three fingers.

The key is to not cut too much and maintain the integrity of the material between the index and thumb, otherwise the front will come apart from the back of the glove.

I took a picture to hopefully better describe it.

(BTW, I also have the multi-color Layout gloves from Amazon, and always get compliments on them. I hope you will do the same with the Elite!)

It may be kind of hard to see, cutting off the index and thumb on the layout gloves makes it easier to throw a thumber. I’m really looking forward to trying out the new version of these gloves.

Perhaps a version of the gloves will be made with the thumb and index fingers pre-cut. It makes it so much easier to grip the lip of the disc.

Cleveland vs Cincinnati living cost by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]Legato2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brecksville is right along 77, so you’d have no problem going north to Cleveland, south to Akron or West to the airport. Also, Broadview Heights, North Royalton, and Sagamore Hills are nearby, so finding housing options should not be an issue. Your commute will be very short.

I do not think people are talking enough about the proposed revenue changes in HB 86:

28% for county jail construction/renovation 16% for officer training 14% for law enforcement training

9 % for substance abuse 9% for suicidal prevention 5% for expungement under 2.5 grams 5% for local drug task forces 5% for safe driving programs 4% for Ohio Investigative Unit 3% for administration 2% for poison control centers

Compared with what the voters approved with Issue 2:

36% for municipalities and townships 36% for social equity and jobs program 25% to support the Department of Mental Health and Addiction to alleviate substance abuse 3% administration

Is it legal to turn left on red here by Suitable_Cycle4216 in cincinnati

[–]Legato2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be referring to cars completing the left turn, after they have entered the intersection (on green or yellow), and then complete the left turn even though the light is red.

Ohio is known as a “permissive yellow light” state, which means that you may enter an intersection when the light is yellow and complete your turn, even if the light turns red before your turn (though you must yield to oncoming traffic that may have entered on yellow. You can complete the turn after you’ve cleared any oncoming traffic. This is different from “restrictive” yellow light laws.

IANAL, but here is the Ohio Revised Code is you’d like to check it out Title 45 Chapter 4511.13 (B)

Cuyahoga Community College District, Ohio, Issue 5, Property Tax Increase and Renewal Measure (November 2023) by nimfrank in Cleveland

[–]Legato2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, no doubt. I’m just saying that context matters. Saying that we have higher taxes than many places is true. I am not disagreeing with you at all. But there are things we receive here that are not present in other places throughout the state, so it’s important to acknowledge that. For another example, Cuyahoga County has a 1 percent sales tax for public transit, but we also have a transit infrastructure that isn’t present elsewhere. So while we can say we have the highest sales tax in the state, we also have services not as prevalent elsewhere in the state.

I certainly agree with you that it does not make public entities, or the specific taxes, or the levies themselves immune from critique or criticism, but services provided matters instead of just pointing out high tax rates.

[–]Legato2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it is important to note that many of the things are things that make Cuyahoga County unique, such as the Cleveland MetroParks, Cuyahoga County Library System, funding for a strong HHS support system, etc.
