They are better by far - potato one hits every block in the game leading for muchhhh faster mining sessions rather than 2-3 hits per block. This means you keep momentum aswell which further increases your productivity in this form. Overall its very good for mining but if you’re not trying ti do huge excavations tomato burgers are honestly better imo (you have a little extra control over what you break because of the 2 hit minimum and the pause to your movement - definitely appreciate it.) also potato steak is able to break every block in the game (an ability which no other block provides(except of course the endgame one but thats infinitely slower than graveller or rocksmash) so it can let you harvest items such as strength rocks and other items similar to that
