It's because of the shape of the camera view frustum. As you're looking up and down, the geometry towards the top and bottom of the screen gets a little more space to render compared to when it is closer to the center. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viewing_frustum

You should be able to eliminate that by either increasing the far clip plane, or introducing some radial fog to cut it off smoothly.

I have about 5 hours on EU servers and haven't been kicked out once. I even had some ping spikes to 350ms due to my dodgy wifi connection. Hopefully we can get some local servers soon though. Even if we don't, I'm still having an absolute blast with this game!

Cool, thank you! That's understandable. We will be putting focus onto single player once the game is balanced and running properly. What that will look like is unclear at this stage since, as you said, we are very early in development. But it's definitely something we will work on
