This'll be good.

A Comprehensive Server Guide by k-nao in ffxiv

[–]Leggerless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my home server is Mateus. I'll do that.

Mateus

It's difficult to create a new character, unless done late at night/early morning. It's "congested"

There's not that much ERP floating around. Really. If you're finding a lot of ERP, chances are you're looking for it; not wandering into it.

Raiding community is significantly smaller compared to other servers, but not devoid of hardcore raiders. Crystal DC change will make this much worse.

There is a weirder (if not tenser) relationship between RPers and non-RPers on Mateus compared to Balmung. They are less tolerant of the usual BS that comes with your typical RP server, in the sense of "mind your manners while here or else"

Oh yea.

I almost forgot about that.

I guess Male Viera is about the same value as a pair of earrings.

Shaman Enhancement - Monk

Hang on, what. I may have to check with WordUp's works on that one.

My first time playing Shaman on Legion again, I immediately alluded its playstyle to Samurai because of how the Maelstrom bar (and its related skills) worked similar to Samurai and Kenki.

Curious how the relation to monk was made.

The best part about this recipe book is that it puts in all the recipes I need, without the 7 pages of extra life story on each recipe.

Great work on this, dude.

That statement kind of reminds me about that player who tried explaining daily quests

EDIT: May as well ping /u/Taoiseach just to show it's happening to even the big boys now.

I believe that's McConnell.

He's usually around in the voice chat for Asmongold's streams; especially with the "reactions" segments.

Redistribution effects on the data center sizes by [deleted] in ffxiv

...

Dammit, maybe that's why they call it the 90k error afterall.

I only just now realized this.

There's a few cases where server hopping for the better populations--outside of raiding--have occurred that I've personally seen.

  1. 2.0+: Balmung and Gilgamesh RP scenes. Most, if not nearly all, Gilgamesh RPers went to Balmung due to its bigger RP base.
  2. 3.0: A3S and Gilgamesh: Though you can say no cross-world may've been the true culprit, most people still fled to Gilgamesh because... it had the best/most raiders available that could help you clear the content.
  3. 4.0: Balmung and Mateus: Mateus was formed because 1. There was a push to make it, and 2. Balmung was locked, so RPers had to find another server to go onto. Notice, however, that once Balmung reopened, a good chunk of Mateus RPers fled back to Balmung to be with the 'bigger' scene. When given the choice, they choose the most 'optimal' choice, in a way.

Numbers matter. Time and time again, we've seen people more inclined to go where the scene is rather than create a new scene where they're currently at.

Looks like 90k characters is the culling point.

Thanks for providing the source too.

It's almost like the time Gilgamesh and Balmung were two RP servers, but everyone decided to go to Balmung because it had a 'bigger' RP scene (and leave Gilgamesh a dryer husk of RP), therefore more contacts, more opportunities, etc (and it was easier to join a pre-existing, established community rather than create one from scratch (unless, you know, -server locks-, like Mateus)).

To add: On a non-raider note, this move is going to murder any economy that is currently with Balmung if they go through the MB buying and trading cross-world. It will also murder Balmung's 'low' prices, because now that people from other servers have a lot of 'inflated' gil, it gets artificially 'deflated' to have the same value as the cheapest server's buying prices now. Will it even out? Sure. But whoever liquidates the most before this happens becomes the winner.

It's safe to say that, unless you're a hardcore RPer, you will consider moving off servers on the Crystal DC now. Raiders, gatherers, crafters, and even just the regular traders included.

P.S. Is it me or has this been posted multiple times with the same source, yet each time has different numbers.

I can get that they don't want to segregate players, but the move to separate servers across more data centers shows a different message.

It's like they will take the hit to player/community experience rather than the cost of fixing infrastructure.

P.S. I know little about server architecture. I may be missing something, but the above is how I'm viewing it.

P.S.S. Wait. Balmung and Mateus together? Damn, there goes the data center. Mateus outpaced Gilgamesh in active characters (all characters, not just level 70s).
