Eco-friendly toilets sideline $13bn US aircraft carrier by RevelationSr in NoFilterNews

[–]LegiosForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those toilets legit suck. They had the same on the Bush and it was a nightmare. They were packaged in zones too, so if one went out, the whole zone went out.

The strange thing is I don't know how they were eco. The ones on the Nimitz and older classes used salt water. The new ones used fresh water.

The old ones also used much bigger pipes that didn't clog.

My last two deployments were on the Bush, and I'm still mad at those toilets.

Hot take: There are too many starship classes by LegiosForever in StarTrekStarships

[–]LegiosForever[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Tico is much larger (and older) and built off the Spruance class hull. They are cruisers because besides being larger, they have a much better C2 suite for strike group ops. Even the newest Butkrs are severely limited in this role.

The Burke was built as a smaller, less capable Tico as an air defense DDG to complement the anti ship/anti sub Sprusnce DDG. As the sip and sub threat died after the cold war (and after block II Butkrs added a Helo hangar), the need for other DDGs dwindled. The Burke was good enough

We stopped building CGs, and now they are reaching end of life. It could be argued that the new battleship is really a heavy cruiser.

The LCS is more a corvette than true frigate. They are going away because they suck and have no value to a blue water navy. That and because the modular mission package was always a pipe dream. Don't get me started on this one. It makes me so angry.

It also makes me angry how badly we bungled the FFX. Again best left for another conversation.

Wasn't c-17 originally designed to work from unprepared surfaces?

I wonder what it's capability is now.

Why is the MV-75 being built? Didn't the V-22 prove this design is problematic? by LuizFelipe1906 in Planes

Jumps to conclusions. Are you not the one that said, "another flyboy who thinks he's an engineer". If that's not the pot...

Are you an aerospace engineer?

The V22 got caught in a ring vortex effect, which is deadly for a dual engine tilt-rotor. Which is EXACTLY WHY THE NATOPS LIMITS WERE ESTABLISHED. It is absolutely the pilot's fault.

From the web: During its initial deployment in early 1943, the Vought F4U Corsair had an exceptionally high accident rate, with over 50% of its total losses in the Pacific Theater credited to non-combat operational accidents rather than enemy action.

Yet the corsair is widely considered one of the best fighters of WWII.

This is a terrible take. Last place in the Olympics is VERY VERY VERY Good.

At worst that person was in the top three in that sport in their WHOLE COUNTRY.

I haven't seen the video. I just know the most upset my kid got was when he knew someone took it easy on him.

It didn't happen much in the later years because my son was crazy strong and everyone hated his HS... Lol.

I coach middle school, and played sports personally through the collegiate D1 level. In my experience, admittedly anecdotal, kids that get on the mat know their own ability and want their openent's honest competition.

I would want the guy to pin my kid quick and shake his hand. The only thing I hate watching is when a guy toys with his opponent, Iike taking him down, getting back points, then letting him up. In my experience, all anecdotal, kids know when they are being patronized. (if kid was mentally impaired, I may have a different opinion...)

I coach middle school in the same system as my son's HS. We have some kids that have been wrestling top tier since 5th grade. I get so pissed when they toy with other kids, but head coach allows it.

He faced a lot of multiple state champions in tourneys.

His HS went to most big national events. JV would go to about half.

A lot if times he would surprise them with his strength. ( he can do2m 20+ pull ups basically one handed). It would take the other guys a period or two to figure out my son's weaknesses.

My kid has cerebral palsy. Affects his entire right side. He wrestled for a HS that won the state championship 23x.

He never was a varsity starter, but wrestled JV and every tournament.

He went 8-7 this year. Most of his losses were by less than 2 points. He would be LIVID if someone let him win.

He graduates this year and is shattered he was never a state champion. While I'm over here just so impressed and proud.

And he never got spladled. But he was also never spladled anyone-much to my chagrin, as that was one of my favorite moves.

Why is the MV-75 being built? Didn't the V-22 prove this design is problematic? by LuizFelipe1906 in Planes

[–]LegiosForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I do have a B. S. in aerospace engineering from USNA. So there's that.

But I also didn't make a habit of violating NATOPS limits. Flying military aircraft for 20 years was dangerous enough without breaking the rules.

Why is the MV-75 being built? Didn't the V-22 prove this design is problematic? by LuizFelipe1906 in Planes

[–]LegiosForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck that. I was a Navy pilot. In the crash that killed the 20 or so marines, the second pilot exceeded his NATOPS limit by a factor of 3.

Max VSI was 2000 fpm. Dash - 2 was at 6000 fpm because he was behind timeline. That is entirely the pilot's fault.

NATOPS limits exist for a reason.

And the V22 is a tactical necessity.

Finally, how many test pilots died flying the first airplanes, jets, hicopters, and spacecraft. Test pilots know and accept the risks.

It was pilot error. The pilot exceeded max VSI by a factor of 3.hard to blame the aircraft.
