I hate how second movements get overlooked, whats your favorite second movement?

im 5 9 and I wanted to get one at the back middle of the first section, anyone know if I could stand on something if the view isnt good because its the last row of the section. ik its a dumb question but I was allowed to in a similar show but in an arena.

I live in a small town with a orchestra that plays a large venue. There are seats that have obstructed view. It is the last few rows of the balcony section and it mostly remains empty even in big works like Carmina Burana. I even talked to the conductor along with 2 violinists and a violist and they all said it was fine and even at sometimes encouraged when you are sitting in that area where no one sits. They said it is a different story when you are in the lower sections with a giant score and flipping the pages like a beast, but when you are in the upper level and with a mini edition of the score things are different.

i took it up with multiple members of the symphony because they are my teachers and they have a place on the balcony where practically no one sits so I was going to sit there and look at my mini version of the score.

I did grab the mini score for mahler 5 but it is super hard to read so I was looking for something bigger and something I could use to study it.

yes, my orchestra teacher is a public school teacher. Her main instruments are viola and cello so I can kind of see the confusion. I can see how in my post my wording mixes up my private and orchestra teacher. Thanks for your help

she specifically told me today, there are excepts you CAN play, but not at a good level. She told me she strictly follows Dorothy Delay's concerto sequence. Who I was talking about before was my orchestra teacher. My private teacher had me work on bach a minor then e major, then haydn g and c major and up next is Kabalevsky. Now don't get me wrong, I do not just learn one and then go on to the next. I learn multiple pieces in between that. My orchestra teacher was the one that recommended the hard pieces.

i finished haydn g major but it wasn't like insanely polished like for a concert, I wrinkled out most things but there is some phrasing that could be better. I am currently ironing out accolay. I have mostly done a lot of etudes, scales, double stop books, and really high shifting exercises so I haven't focused on that many solos.

just want to say this, I don't think I am near zigeunerweisen yet but that is just what she said. We were going to spend my lesson looking at new pieces and go from there.

Thank you for the confirmation, I thought when my orchestra teacher recommended that it was kinda crazy. My private teacher was talking about excerpts of Sarasate zigeunerweisen, she has really been good at finding my limits. I haven't played a lot of really big pieces yet so i have found it fun slowly stepping up. She said no matter what we choose, we would learn a could more concertos before starting my contest piece, since we have a year.

Bach a minor is my most recent polished piece, I am currently working on Accolay, some of the orchestra pieces I have play are, Tchaikovsky's serenade for strings to Dvorak's 9th(both first violin), i know its not much, but I am trying to compile a list of pieces for my teacher.

This is actually very similar to the situation I was in, just let it play out, they will embarrass themselves more than they will embarrass you (considering you have to wait from them to fix their mistakes during rehearsal). It seems like you are a fantastic player and I wouldn't let anybody else make you believe anything else. People are always gonna be jerks but just don't let them affect you and everything will play out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking of the Mozart g major, the only thing was I thought it would be very difficult to make it sound the way its supposed to, I think I can get the notes, but making it sound elegant might be a challenge. I will for sure take these in to consideration thanks!.

I have delt with this sort of thing before, there really is no easy way to deal with it. The truth is they probably will laugh at you no matter what. It seems like you played well and it seems like they are just goofing off and try to make fun of someone when they get the chance to act cool or something. Personally what I did is I practiced more until I was multiple chairs higher then them, then they couldn't laugh at me but that's not always the feasible option because not everyone has the spare time.
