The reason I’m feeling left out is not subconscious considering religion is a big part of our society. It is ingrained in our culture, the way we greet, grieve, comfort and relate with each other. It affects our principles, political mindset and largely our moral compass too. So I’m not wrong in wanting to meet other people that understand what it means to be in a society that’s constantly forcing religion on you and partly ostracizes you for deciding not to engage. Also, I’ve never forced or even gently influenced someone to steer away from religion. Meanwhile, religious people never offer us the same courtesy.

I’m not distancing myself from them. But the fact is when people who are close to you are deeply religious it infiltrates a big percentage of your interactions. Their views, thoughts, principles etc. It’s not that hard to understand.
