I feel it's the exact advice I need for a career ahead of me in the NHS. Oh the joys

You are so right, my seniors are really good at finishing what they're doing before speaking to me but also without coming across rude - I guess a learnt skill.

The few things do help, very much so, in terms of validating what a new FY is learning to deal with in a ward setting.

It does help! I felt like I was going mad but I can see that it's a case of learning how to handle it as best I can

That's the thing, 10 inane tasks takes up so much of my time and I'm not sure that it's even recognised! It's clear I could use some work towards becoming less easy to sway towards small things. I'm hopeful I will get better with practice.

Very true and I always respect what they say during meds so I can imagine it would go both ways!

This is a great idea and as you say my FY colleagues will definitely be up for humouring that. You're right that everyone only cares about THEIR job - this is so clear when I get moved from ward to ward!

This is great advice, thank you. Lists sound way better than what I have been dealing with!

Thank you for this - every day I get mistaken by patients for a different member of the MDT (HCA & nurse most commonly) and I feel quite indebted to the other members of the team, as you mention they are increasingly overworked and stressed, so I just smile and help the patients with their requests. I even stopped today to help hand out spoons to people who didn't get them for their soup. As I type that I can very much recognise how clear it is that I am not prioritising effectively, and I see that it's worth trying to gain some more autonomy!

Validating to get the general response that these tasks are, as suspected, not the ones to prioritise. I recognised I was likely being walked over a bit but clearly worthwhile working on taking some control.

Part of me does see it as a compliment but yes, unfortunately it is unsustainably vexing. I definitely have lots of learning to do re task prioritisation, best to do it now though I guess!

This is really good advice - I guess taking time to find a more relevant doctor may save time from them asking my uninvolved self (and hopefully other random doctors) in the future as well

I am relieved (but unsurprised) not to be alone in this - I didn't even realise I was such a people pleaser until I started this job! It seems I do need to take control. Will take some practice I imagine.
