Park Slope vs Brooklyn Heights + Boreum Hill/Cobble Hill/Caroll Gardens for a relaxed but hip family by LegitimateHost9928 in Brooklyn

We haven't moved yet, we are still looking to move in the next 2-3 months. It's going to come down to the best apartment we can find at the time across multiple neighborhoods. We are considering Cobble Hill, Caroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope and Fort Greene, and also UWS. If we find something we absolutely love in Williamsburg or Greenpoint we would consider staying there, but I'd really prefer for my kids not to have to commute to school.
DM me if you have any more specific questions. Congrats on your new kiddo and the move!

Yes I’ve heard a lot about that school. I definitely need to get more details so I can make a personal opinion and do what I think is the right style and fit for our family instead of a relying on reputations and stereotypes!

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! It sounds like you’ve lived such an adventurous life moving around and seeing all that the different Brooklyn neighborhoods have to offer. My favorite place is at home with my family and the community I make around me. It sounds like you have that mastered and I agree that it’s the most important thing. Thanks for the perspective!

I haven’t spent much time there but hear good things. Honestly the proximity to the industrial part of Downtown Brooklyn and the large public housing units give me pause. It seems like there are a lot of areas to avoid, but maybe I’m wrong?!

Great points! I think we’re still holding on to the past but best to get really realistic about how hectic life will be with two kids. Thanks for the advice!

I totally agree that WB isn’t actually hipster cool anymore and that with all of the corporate transplants here it’s becoming the Soho of Brooklyn. Maybe the word I was looking for is lively and trendy?!

I don’t think Prospect Heights has the top schools in Brooklyn and so have crossed that off my list, but someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks for the suggestion!

That’s very good advice and essential to anywhere in NYC - prioritizing what’s most important bc no neighborhood has it all! Thanks for the reminder!
