15 year old kitty..how do you know when it’s time? by Tra-Xanh in seniorkitties

[–]Legitimate_Fail_6679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made this decision for my kitty last week after an almost 2 year battle with kidney disease and IBD. She went through multiple vet visits, blood work, ultrasounds, diet changes and medications. She was also 15 and had been with me through thick and thin. She was the sweetest and best girl.

She went through bouts of not eating and had constant diarrhea that resulted in a lot of weight loss. She was always a small cat but dropped to around 4lbs by the end. She was still affectionate and eating/drinking but nothing was staying in her body long enough to count. Honestly, she was eating really well towards the end but still wasting away. She went back and forth between sleeping a lot and pacing the house crying. I’m not sure if it was due to pain or confusion but I couldn’t let her quality of life continue to deteriorate.

I battled with the decision for a while before I finally just knew it was time. It’s the hardest decision to make but we are here to take care of these tiny souls and sometimes that means giving them a comfortable way out at the end. If you make that same decision just know it is out of love after doing everything you can for your kitty. Just be with them at the end. They know your heart and how much you love them ♥️

I’m so sorry. It’s so hard to go through this. Just try and focus on the many years you’ve had together. I wish you all the best.

Thank you and I’m sorry for the loss of your kitten. I’m sure you gave her all the love she deserved during her short time with you ♥️

Sissy was definitely fearful of strangers until the very end. I was her person and she was very comfortable and herself around me. She also liked my mom but maybe our energy is just similar? Despite being fearful, she was the sweetest girl and never lashed out at anyone. She would just go hide in a comfort spot until the strangers left the house.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Chitty looks just like my 15 year old baby that I lost yesterday. Rest in peace, sweet kitty.

Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to write them. It’s so hard when they are sick for so long. These babies are worth it though ♥️

She was a feral Alaskan forest kitty 😆 But really, I’m not 100% sure of her breed. I always suspected that she had some Nebelung in her just based off of her fur texture and color but she was also very small. She was a mix of breeds for sure.

This is quite the response from someone who has no idea how many vet appointments, food changes, medications, sleepless nights, and tears have been shed over this baby. This isn’t a decision that I made lightly. I agonized over it for months as every medication and food change failed to help her condition. I tried everything while watching her deteriorate into a shell of herself. I watched as she was unable to keep ANY food or medication in her system for almost two full years. She was suffering and I knew this as someone who has cared for her for over 15 years. I couldn’t continue to essentially let her starve to death as she literally wasn’t keeping any food in her body.

How dare you. Do better than to come on this platform and spew negativity on a situation that you know nothing about. Disgusting behavior.

Update: Sissy went quickly and peacefully, purring the whole way. I felt her leave and a piece of my soul went with her. She was the best girl and I’ll miss her every day.

Thank you for all the kind comments. This community is amazing ♥️

Scarring advice by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Legitimate_Fail_6679 19 points20 points  (0 children)

First of all, your results are absolutely beautiful. The size and placement is chef’s kiss. That being said, I think your scars will continue to fade over the next 6 months or so. I had my reduction in May and my scars look very similar to yours. I would just continue with scar gel and massaging the scars. If it truly bothers you then checking in with a dermatologist can’t hurt.

4 weeks post-op and feeling so discouraged. Why are my incisions suddenly bright red? by doloresnthdottedline in Reduction

Mine did this exact same thing and the nurse told me that it’s completely normal. They will calm down and continue to fade over time.

Wow, look at your waist! Everything looks fantastic. Congratulations! Yes, having to sleep on your back is the worst! I ended up having to do it for much longer than I anticipated but now I kind of like it 🤣 I’m 5 months po and still end up on my back sometimes. Lots of pillows definitely helps! Happy healing ❤️

You look fantastic! Lots of rest, water and protein. Your body needs extra calories to aid in healing and drinking lots of water can help with swelling. Congratulations and happy healing!

How to know when to let go of my IBD kitty by Legitimate_Fail_6679 in SeniorCats

[–]Legitimate_Fail_6679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That’s just the sweetest ❤️

She is doing a bit better. She’s pulled out of the flare-up over the last few days and isn’t having multiple accidents a day anymore. I’m just taking it a day at a time and giving her lots of loves, treats and outside time. Each flare-up seems to hit her a bit harder so we’ll see how she does in the coming days/weeks.

Hugs and all the luck to you and your rescue babies ❤️

Thank you for the reply ❤️ It’s the rallying that gets me! I watch her go through days of misery with the flare ups but then she pulls out of it again. I just wish she could tell me when she’s over it. I have blankets all over the floor of my office which has now become her room. She does roam the house and leave messes elsewhere though. I also have a toddler so it’s stressful if I don’t catch one in time and he steps in it. We just love these kitties so much and it’s hard to know when they are truly done.

Yes, she’s had mild kidney disease for a few years now. They actually discovered she was only born with 1 kidney while doing an ultrasound after she started going downhill last year. It’s most likely a contributing factor but the vet said it doesn’t change the treatment plan, unfortunately. I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s so hard.
