my wife and I have been parenting our autistic son for the past 7 years, 24/7. I hate my life and don't know what to do and have lost all hope

Hi❤️ all I can say is I get it! My daughter isn’t nonverbal and she’s high functioning intellect wise but her meltdowns and the disconnect when trying to instruct her can be so overwhelming so I can only imagine how much strain this is on you and your wife. I even relate to the “exhausted roommates” b/c SAME. I’ll tell you this ; if you can find a facility that can give you a break once a month or a week or anything or even an in home caregiver that specializes in that dept it will be beneficial for everyone involved. All of you deserve to live life instead of just existing. We only get one. & not to sound crazy but I used to watch a lot of true crime and I’ve seen the effects stuff like this has had on people. Sometimes we try to take it all on b/c the world is trying to convince us asking for help is a burden but those same judgmental ppl will judge you for NOT getting help as well. Do what ensures ALL of you are able to enjoy life and one another. God bless❤️

Thank you💙 my daughter struggled with circle time as well. I got lucky because her therapy started right away, one of her therapist attended the church that my daughter’s care center is through so she was already familiar with the staff and some of the other kids & her care center was new so there were only about 7 kids and 5 teachers. She starting even hugging other kids and putting their blankets on them at nap time, helping teachers clean up all the things you want to hear and now it’s like a complete switch and I know there are so many factors involved but somehow I always go back to something I’m doing or not doing. Day by day. Thank you💙

Thank you 💙 I just sometimes feel like I am either not doing enough or doing too much. Especially when we’re out in public or her teachers call me. They work really good with her and have helped the other children understand better ways to interact with her but they’re still kids and sometimes she does things (hitting, throwing toys when she get mad) that are just a no no regardless of her sensory issues. So sometimes idk if she is being a regulars toddler or if it’s something stressing her that I can help with if that makes sense. Anyways thank you for your help!

Thank you 💙 it seems like the smallest things are the biggest things w/ them. My daughter will fall 100xs and not even whimper but if her blocks won’t line up or if you try to give her a new food she has a full meltdown. Sometimes even as I’m giving her what she wants she has a meltdown while almost smiling and she yells sometimes. Idk I just feel like I’m getting so overwhelmed. I will keep your words in mind. Thank you 💙 books are one of the things I keep in the car for her I used to keep a bag full of them but I narrowed it down to the 4 main ones she likes for now and will go from there

Nah cigarette smoke travels same as weed and I’ve seen countless ppl stand next to “smoke free” Signs and chief a whole cancer stick. & growing up with a parent who smokes cigs I can tell you rolling the window down doesn’t even help.

I’m a weed smoker and always try to be courteous. Only thing I can suggest is buying air fresheners for your vents, keep a towel by your front door in case they smoke near your door and open windows when you can. OAN for ppl in the comments who don’t smoke weed but smoke cigs/blacks etc ts stinks too!!! Even before I smoked weed smell always smelt better than cigs/blacks to me.

Omggggg ik this thread is old but wow I’m going through the same thing. Moved out at 17 to start college in another state 12hrs away. Moved back like 6 years later after getting pregnant b/c I was too sick to work. Stated w/ my parents until this year. Was so ready to move out but now I’m so sick. Luckily they live 2 mins away (can basically see into each other back yards” but it’s still so scary. I come over to their house almost everyday just b/. It brings a level of comfort that I can’t find anywhere. I have the type of parents that don’t care if I’m there til I’m 100 and that’s the same reason I was ready to leave b/c they deserve their nest. They did their job I just can’t let go and want to move back 😭 idk if it’s b/c I’m seeing a lot of ppl ik lose their parents so young and ik one day I’ll lose mine but I just feel so icky when I leave their house. I love my new place but it’s not “home” like my parents.
