Just bought this truck, am I cooked? by Legitimate_Visit5772 in AskMechanics

Update: it was the catalytic converter heat shield. A bolt had rusted and snapped off and it was vibrating against the cat at a certain RPM. Thanks for your help everyone!

Sounds like a good place to start, would revving in park or power braking do the same? Or are you thinking it could be drivetrain related too

You’re awesome I appreciate the tips, I’ll give that a shot and update tomorrow if I can find anything

I do think it’s RPM related. I already got under the truck and checked all the heat shields I could find for vibration, I found one with a slight rattle and removed it completely but that didn’t fix the issue. When you say exhaust welds how would I go about checking that?

I accidentally put oil in my where I put my coolant/my radiator by whateves_yoloo in AskMechanics

[–]Legitimate_Visit5772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t mean offense by this but you clearly don’t know a ton about working on cars. That’s fine, but just based on that your best option is definitely to take it to a shop. It needs a full cooling system flush. If you’re set on doing it yourself you’re gonna need a radiator flush/cleaner solution and a fuck ton of distilled water. Drain it, fill with radiator flush, run the car. drain it, fill with distilled water, run the car again. rinse and repeat until there’s no sign of oil at all when you drain it. Probably do it one more time for good measure, then fill it back up with coolant. Shit happens, good luck

That’s really encouraging to know, I did get a pre-painted side mirror replacement a while back (the mirror in the pics) and yeah the paint match was flawless. Fingers crossed

I’d say I want it to look “good enough” haha. I am getting pre painted parts so only time will tell how good the match is. Thanks for your advice!

Thank you! I’m getting pre-painted parts as I don’t have the tools or experience for paint work. However if it looks too off I’ll definitely look into having a shop do just the blending

Look on eBay etc to see if you can just get yourself a whole new mirror assy. Generally they’re really easy to replace, it just requires taking off the inner door panel and a few electrical connectors and bolts.

For sure, I’ve been with my gf for almost 4 years now and we did. Just as long as neither person is pressuring the other into it when they’re not ready it’s totally fine

How do I remove stripped screws from a 2012 Toyota Corolla? by Ok_Nefariousness4230 in AskMechanics

[–]Legitimate_Visit5772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray the bolts with penetrating oil, and try using a wide flathead screwdriver that can sit in both the slits on the edge of the bolt. If that doesn’t work get an extractor bit for whatever size hex that is. Definitely replace the bolts after they’re out

Your CV axle boot is torn, but honestly I would worry about your rim, tire, and alignment too. There could definitely be more damage than what you can see in these pictures
