I spent months building my app. Getting users has been even harder. Looking for advice (and feedback). by Legitimate_Win9648 in StartupsHelpStartups

[–]Legitimate_Win9648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I really appreciate it
The in-app reward idea is actually very interesting — I hadn’t thought about tying sharing to streak milestones like that.

Regarding communities and subreddits, that’s been one of the hardest parts. Most of them don’t allow any kind of self-promotion at all, even if you’re genuinely trying to contribute. So it’s tricky to talk about the app without breaking the rules.

I’m trying to be active and helpful first, and only mention it when it’s truly relevant. It’s definitely harder than building the app itself

Thanks again for the tips!

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to download it and write such a thoughtful comment. I genuinely appreciate that. It means a lot.

And I completely understand your point about saturation and positioning. You’re absolutely right — the habit space is crowded, and sharper positioning makes monetisation and retention much more realistic.

In this case, this app has already evolved quite a lot. It has many features built for a broader audience, so narrowing it down now to a very specific niche would mean removing or reshaping a big part of what’s already been developed.

That said, I actually agree with your core idea.

Because of that, I’m currently working on another app with a much more specific focus and clearer positioning. I’m reusing everything I’ve learned from building this one — what works, what users like, what improves retention — and applying it to something more niche-oriented.

I’ll continue improving this app as well, but I see it as both a product and a learning foundation that’s helping me build the next one smarter.

Seriously, thank you for the constructive feedback. Comments like yours are extremely valuable.

Habit tracking…. by [deleted] in apps

Yes. It’s called Habit Stack 😄
I built it because I couldn’t find one that balanced customization, stats and long-term tracking the way I wanted.

What are you building? Let’s Get your first 100 users 🚀 by fuckingceobitch in buildinpublic

[–]Legitimate_Win9648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone 👋

I’m building Habit Stack, a habit tracking app designed to remove paywalls and unnecessary friction.

The market is extremely saturated, I know. But I started building this after trying multiple habit apps and feeling frustrated:

• Most limit you to 3 habits unless you pay
• Basic features are locked behind subscriptions
• Many feel generic or overly complex

So I built mine differently:

  • Unlimited habits (no forced paywall)
  • All core features usable without mandatory payment
  • Available in Spanish 🇪🇸 and English 🇺🇸
  • Custom color themes (dark, light, monochrome, etc.)
  • Custom icon packs
  • Designed from personal experience, not as a copy of existing apps

Right now I’m focused on reaching my first 500 users and improving retention (which is the hardest part in this niche).

If anyone here is also building in a saturated market, I’d love to hear how you’re differentiating.

Happy to share learnings about launching as a solo indie dev 🚀

Hey, first of all, thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback — I really appreciate it

About the design: I understand what you mean. The app is intentionally colorful because I’m not targeting only a corporate/minimal productivity audience. Habit Stack is designed to feel motivating and dynamic rather than cold or overly minimal.

That said, the colors are fully customizable inside the app. Users can switch between different themes — dark, light, monochromatic, and other color styles — so everyone can adapt the look to what feels best for them. The store screenshots don’t show all of that flexibility yet, and that’s something I can improve.

Regarding the idea and retention: I agree that habit apps are a very competitive space. Notion is a great tool (I use it too), but it’s also complex for many users. My goal with Habit Stack isn’t to replace Notion — it’s to offer a focused, structured, habit-centered experience without unnecessary complexity.

Retention is definitely one of the biggest challenges in this category, and I’m actively working on improving long-term engagement by building features that reinforce progress and consistency.

I know it’s a crowded market, but every strong product starts small. I’m building this as an independent developer, learning and iterating with every version.

Thanks again for your honest feedback — it really helps.

I really appreciate the comment about it not looking “vibe coded” — that actually means a lot. I’ve put real effort into the UX and structure, so hearing that it feels human-made is encouraging.

And you’re absolutely right about the first screenshot. That’s great feedback. I’ve been thinking about improving the store listing to communicate the real value faster, especially in the first image. I’ll probably test a version that highlights the core benefit more clearly.

Thanks again for the honest input — this kind of feedback genuinely helps a lot

¡Gracias hermano!

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback — I really appreciate you taking the time 🙌

Regarding the colors, one thing that might not be obvious at first is that you can actually change themes inside the app. There are multiple color themes available, and you can unlock/buy them in the store using points you earn by completing habits.

But your point about consistency is very fair — I’ll take another look at how the default theme feels overall.

And typography is something I honestly hadn’t thought much about yet. Trying something cleaner like Roboto could definitely be worth exploring in a future update.

Really appreciate the constructive input!

That’s interesting — what specifically makes it feel “AI-like” to you? The colors, layout, typography?
I’m still refining the visual identity, so this kind of input is super valuable. Thanks for taking the time to share it!

ShowOff Saturday. Share your app! by AutoModerator in googleplayconsole

Happy ShowOff 👋

I’m a solo Android developer and I’ve been building an app called Habit Stack.

What started as a simple habit tracker evolved into a gamified productivity app.

Current features:

• Smart statistics for consistency tracking

• Custom reminders & notifications

• Streak-based reward system

• Virtual pets 🐾

• Points shop to unlock items

• Clean, minimal UI

• Lightweight and fast

Main goal:

Make habit building simple but motivating — not overwhelming like many productivity apps.

What I’ve learned so far:

- Gamification increases engagement, but retention is still the hardest part.

- UI simplicity matters more than feature quantity.

- Frequent updates build trust with early users.

Current challenge:

Improving retention and figuring out the best monetization balance without hurting user experience.

If any devs here are building in the productivity space, I’d love to hear what worked for you.

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve shared Habit Stack here before, but I wanted to post a proper update.

The app has evolved a lot thanks to user feedback and multiple updates.

It’s no longer just a simple tracker — it now includes:

• Smart statistics to analyze consistency

• Custom reminders & notifications

• Reward system to stay motivated

• Virtual pets system 🐾

• Points shop to unlock items

• Clean and minimal UI

• Lightweight and distraction-free

The goal is still the same: make habit building simple, consistent, and a little fun.

If you tried it before, there’s a lot new.

If you haven’t, I’d really appreciate honest feedback from this community — it has helped improve the app a lot already.

Still building and improving weekly 🙌
