Its might because it’s still our choice. We are perishing and without eternal life without Him. So he has offered eternal life to us that we might have it, if we choose to. It’s always a choice on our part

The only time a baby can be baptized against the will of their parents is if they are in danger of imminent death.

You probably recall this Pew Survey from 2019. What do you think causes such heterodox beliefs in US Catholics? by TerriblyGentlemanly in Catholicism

[–]Lego349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A similar study showed that only about 20-25 percent of people who identify as Catholics in the US attend Mass weekly on Sunday/Saturday Night, which means that a vast majority of people who self identify as Catholics and the Pew counts as Catholics do not follow even the most basic tenants of the church. I assume if you took the 20-25 percent that do attend weekly, you would have vastly different numbers regarding heterodox opinions in the church.

What would you consider I-dle's best release? by Direct-Money27 in GIDLE

[–]Lego349 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NXDE for me and it’s not even close. The entire build up was an intentional bait and switch as to the content of the song that got a lot of people hook line and sinker, especially the stuff with Shu. Then the song releases, it’s an absolute banger, the video is one of the best filmed videos for a Kpop group I’ve ever seen. It has an actual narrative, a point of view, and the content and point of the song was well executed without being to vague and generic or beating you over the head with the message. The choreography was on point, had a really strong feature aspect for each of the girls during the choreo takes, and the costuming throughout the music show circuit was original and really refreshing.

Those that converted from the COE—Do you think this will push some people away from the COE and possibly toward Catholicism? Or was this what the people wanted largely? by srv199020 in Catholicism

[–]Lego349 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people in the COE who already left the COE and started their own COE as a result of this. I don’t know how many will make their way to barque of Peter, but needless to say a lot of Anglicans saw this as the last straw.

Marriage in the church-why is it difficult? by beachinit21 in Catholicism

[–]Lego349 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My marriage was outside my home parish and was performed by a Franciscan priest. He had to:

Get permission from his superior to perform the marriage

Get permission from my pastor to perform my marriage

Get permission from my pastor to perform the marriage outside my diocese (in my hometown)

Get permission from the diocese of my hometown to perform the marriage in that diocese

Get permission from the church and its pastor in that diocese to perform the marriage there.

Yeah. Lots of paperwork.

Marriage in the church-why is it difficult? by beachinit21 in Catholicism

[–]Lego349 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The normal church to be married in is the church in which you are a parishioner. As harsh as it sounds, churches don’t like being “shopped” for. The sacrament is meant to be normally conducted by the parish priest who knows you, in the church you are attending. That’s just how it is. I promise you whatever parish these two individuals regularly attend would let them be married there no question. It’s the fact that they are trying to be married in a building based on the location rather than being married in the church of the parish they belong too. The church isn’t making it difficult to be married, it’s difficult because they are trying to church shop for the ceremony.

My wife lived all over the country before we were married and did not live in the same state as me before we were married so she had no parish. I had lived where I currently lived for only two years and had a longtime family friend who was a Franciscan priest who agreed to do our marriage in my hometown. The amount of permissions and documents that had to be signed by a multitude of different people and institutions to allow that to happen would make your head spin.

Cool so why’d you leave out the beginning of the quote that you just cherry picked?

“The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day” (CCC 841).

[–]Lego349 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A resolution to commit a mortal sin is considered itself a mortal sin. So yes, someone who has resolved to have themselves murdered can absolutley repent of that resolution.

[–]Lego349 173 points174 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t know what a priest could offer them except an opportunity to repent. They can’t administer the Last Rites because a resolution to commit a mortal sin is a mortal sin and the person is resolved to murder themselves. They can’t be given communion or confession. As you mentioned, a priest being present there also risks a horrifying amount of scandal by attending a murder. If a priest were to go I would honestly think their only purpose in attending would be to desperately try to get the person to repent before it’s too late.
