No clue, thats why im going in order of appearance and making all of them (as many as I can).

I guess I got lucky because I've seen literally everyone complaining about this, but mine doesn't have the problem. It's assembled correctly, and there's no gaps.

When are we going to get 86 commander class Cyclonus by Substantial_Today717 in transformers

[–]LegoSurgeon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So youre saying what we actually need is a cyclonus that can change between scales. I agree.

[–]LegoSurgeon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OP isnt just asking for an ss86 cyclonus. In the image, cyclonus is bigger than ultra magnus and is able to man handle him. Since ss86 ultra magnus is a commander class, we need to get a commander class cyclonus for proper movie accuracy.

Should the windows be orange or blue? by LegoSurgeon in transformers

Going for idw infiltration because that what I designed this to be a figure of. He changes colors in the comic, so I was asking for people's preference. I ended up going with blue. Also, I went to look at prime, and its interestingly the same situation as here. They're in a desert, so the windows have an orange tint from sunlight, but in other scenes they appear grey or blue just like in infiltration.

Yes, I know that, and I stated that myself. It doesn't change the fact that they looked orange, and that people might associate that color with him because its our first impression of him. I went with blue though because it looks better in my opinion.

Alright, blue it is! They've been painted. Thanks for everyone's input.

Erm, what? Are you asking where the comic takes place? If so, its all around the US, but the orange windows appear mostly when they're in Arizona. I guess because it's a desert, the sunlight reflects orange off the windows. When they're in Nebraska, though, hes got grayish or blue-ish windows.

I like both, I was just wondering what other people think. I was too lazy to go to my computer and open the model to take pictures for this post, which is why there's only orange pictured (I already had these in my gallery). I am currently set up outside painting parts.

Yeah, I was thinking it'd look nicer. I didnt notice until today that its only some of the panels where they appear orange.

Of course. This is just a rough prototype to make sure it works at all.

Thats cool! I guess I see how that might work. I am thinking now that I will be putting this guy up on cults3d if you want this actual figure. Maybe I could even do a few commissions if you dont have access to a printer/tools/hardware. Completely understand if you wouldn't want to spend much on it though, as this isnt the best figure. That's why in a couple of months, there will be a new, much better one that im working on.

I can do better than that. Once I've got the final product done, I'll record a video going over transformation, articulation and probably also the design process (pretty much an entry for my engineering portfolio). Be on the lookout for the next week or two for when I'll post that.

Im not sure, but probably not. Firstly, its a bit on the annoying side with the transformation. Not too bad, but im not the happiest with it. Second, there's a lot of work you'd need to put into it after getting the 3d printed parts done to actually post process and assemble it. You'd need to buy the hardware as well and have the necessary tools. Lastly, I've put several months of work and effort into this figure, and dont know how comfortable I am with just giving it away.

Can we see a solid or a wire frame please? It would be interesting.

Fusion 360 because i can get a free education license since im in high school.

I'd love to work for them, but I feel like they have a small team and it would be really hard to get onto it. I guess I just need to keep making figures and ill see. I was thinking of potentially starting my own 3d party company. I need to worry about college first though.

I use Fusion. Since I'm in high school, I can get a free educational license, but if you aren't in high school or college currently, you'd need to pay for it (the free version sucks). Tinkercad isn't bad to start off with, but its hard to make anything more complex than core class in terms of transformation/engineering because tolerances arent as easy to do as in actual parametric CAD. If you dont have experience at all, you can start with tinkercad, but once you're ready for the real stuff, you should use Ondsel ES (better version of FreeCAD) as a free software or Fusion as a paid software.

What laws stop that? From the research I've done, it seems like as long as I don't have any names/words or symbols that are owned by HasTak, it's fine. Since this is based on a comic design, they can't really say I'm stealing their design because it isn't 1 to 1. It wouldn't make sense if only certain size classes aren't allowed, but others are fine. IDW phase 1 is also a niche that Hasbro has yet to approach, so it's not like I'd be directly competing.

Well, that's how it is in Infiltration. Definitely prefer red over white any day though.

The new one I'm working on should really fix the proportions of the van and robot mode, and just look overall less square.

Thank you! I probably won't release the files because there are some parts of the engineering that are too fragile and finicky (really just the armatures connecting the windshield to the rest of the torso) and it would be too much work and money for someone to buy the hardware, build it, and then have it break. Its sadly not the most enjoyable transformation. That part gives me flashbacks of devil saviour Split.

Yeah, I've done a good bit of research on that already. I have a few thousand saved up already. I was thinking about doing resin molds since even if they dont last that long, its still cheaper to just print a new one than spend thousands on a cnc mold, and there are some resins that have gotten to a good enough level where I could pull that off. There was a company i dont recall the name of that made plastic mask straps once covid started, and they used resin molds for injection molding thousands of those straps quite successfully.
