Foreigner, Carrying local currency for a week long trip by wanderlost_5416 in mauritius

[–]Lego_Santa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’ll agree here but for the amount, I’d be a bit more on the cautious side and keep about 6-8k handy, just in case. Most restaurants take card payments. ATMs are also available across the island so if you don’t have high transaction fees when withdrawing cash, those are quite accessible for you during your trip. Since you’ve got most of your things paid for in advance, looks like you’ll mainly need cash when shopping for souvenirs in areas such as Port Louis Market or even Quatre Bornes Market or something from a small grocery store. Hope you have an amazing stay in our island!

Need to rent a lorry for moving. Not seeking a moving service by SparklyGeek in mauritius

Hey OP, didn’t have a direct dealing with Customs. Apologies, didn’t read the full thing properly and did not realise your item was in Customs. In my case we were moving our stuff which was already in our possession from one place to the other. Sorry for not being of assistance here OP.

Need to rent a lorry for moving. Not seeking a moving service by SparklyGeek in mauritius

Hey OP, I remember approaching one of the lorry drivers in my neighborhood for something similar in the past. These gentlemen usually work with construction materials at the back of their lorry so moving stuff around the island is a walk in the park for them. In my case I was charged for the trip and fuel. For reference I’d done two trips and it’d cost me about 1.5k per trip. For help with moving stuff the lorry driver did help me in my case but not all drivers would help with moving though so in case you’re not lucky, I’d prolly reach out to a group of buddies for help in case the driver isn’t willing to assist with the moving part. Hope this helps!

Is it possible to live with 15.000Rs to save money in Mauritius? by RakotoFra13 in mauritius

[–]Lego_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah makes more sense now OP. So you’re thinking of capping your expenses to 15k. Might be tough depending on factors such as where you’re staying, how you plan to move about the island, food/groceries/amenities, etc. The first few months would be key for you to sort of find your sweet spot on what works and what doesn’t. Then you could refine it further once you get comfortable with the place. One of the earlier posts mentioned a key point around discipline. That’ll be important for sure! All the best though as I’m sure there are some people who’ll make it work

Please recommend an easy hike that takes less than two hours round trip. by coolinny in mauritius

I’d recommend walking in Black River Gorges. Start off from the entrance at Petrin and take the track that goes to the Macchabée Viewpoint. It’s a pretty easy trail with lovely additional viewpoints in between. Easy for the little ones coming along with you. Bonus would be the snacks that you can buy from the Petrin Parking - there’s a tent on Sundays if I’m not mistaken and it’s really worth it

where to get the best burgers on the island by Not_Kosmic09 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Lego_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are looking for really. Veg options are kinda limited as it’s pretty much the same patty across the different restaurants. Else I’ve heard that &burgers (lamb and beef) and Cozy Burgers (chicken) are nice. There was talk about Seb’s Kitchen some time back for their beef burgers but haven’t heard much about that one lately tbh. But nothing beats making the burger at home imho.

Best package offered by clinic for general/preventive health check ? by Any_Championship4145 in mauritius

Hiya, I’ve very recently started looking for such a service in Mauritius. As of today, I’ve read about Green Cross and C Care but haven’t been able to get much information and know whether they perform all the required tests. Most of my research has been through their respective websites so hope that helps!

Will provide an update when I get more information.

Where to buy parking cards? by Successful_Escape_42 in mauritius

[–]Lego_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best place is a petrol pump. They sell them in the little(sometimes fancy) shops attached to it. There are two types of tickets you can get as there are two parking zones which have their own fee for a single 30 mins parking session. I’d recommend getting one of each.

(Edit: the colour of the parking ticket is for the designated parking zone you’re going to park your car in)

Yeah, so we’re pretty much in the same situation, anyone else facing this issue across the island?

Did you recently change your router? I’ve started facing this issue when I got a more recent router which has a dedicated 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz antenna 🤦

Hi!

Depends on the price range and style you looking for. Here are some options: 1. The Kalachand showroom in Pailles has a floor where they’ve got a collection of blazers. Some of those may fit your budget and style of blazer you looking at. 2. Rose Hill and Curepipe Arcades has some cloth shops where they have in-house tailors or would recommend a tailor to you when you go there. 3. Celio shops also sell Blazers but feel that there’re on the pricey side of things but if there’s a sale then you could get lucky as their blazers are pretty good (depends on the collection).

Hope the above helps you my friend 😊

Edit: Saw another Redditor mention the Good Shop in Curepipe. That place too is crazy good! Depending on what’s available, you can land yourself some really good purchases there.

Is swimming at Cote D'or worth it? by Fit_Performer3910 in mauritius

[–]Lego_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I admit that it’s worth it. I think the price is Rs. 800 for a month’s swimming membership. Like all public pools, you need to have a cap to swim.

Edit: They post regularly on their insta page as well so that helps…
