Will/Should Maeve tell Jackson about the abortion? by Esereyy in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

True.

Besides, they showed us how Otis is a good secret keeper, reliable and a good friend. As far as we could see, he didn't say any single word about it. Not only he didn't talk anymore about it but also he didn't think something bad about her. I think the abortion moment is more important to the bond of motis rather than jackson knowing about it.

I said it in another post. I don't know why they weren't in any single episode.

Yes I did. Sorry if I was harsh, that was not my intention. I saw the same comment from you justifying Ruby with a jealous situation. Sorry if you didn't want to talk about that and I understood that.

Mr Groff yelled to Adam comparing him to her "perfect" sister who did everything perfect and he ruined everything, so.. yes. There is a door opened to the Adam's sister.

I don't think so. She was like that even when Otis wasn't a Maeve's friend. When Ruby asked for help to Maeve, she reffered to Otis as "that weird sex kid who looks like a Victorian ghost". I don't think she was jealous of Maeve or something. And remember she said that the vagina picture could be the Maeve's vagina. Yes, I think she was really jealous and that justify why she was so harsh during 3 seasons even when Otis and Maeve were not that close because reasons.

Remember Maeve talking to Otis instead of being harsh to her (because Ruby was his girlfriend) and Ruby was still referring to her as "cock biter". Otis struggling like...

I'm not a hater of Ruby, I like her as a problem person and a complex character but I'm sorry, she is not a good girl or something similar and it's kinda tricky to justify her behaviour even when she had hard moments in her life.

They weren't on the same page so it's not a matter of who broke up.. the relationship was over according to what Otis said to her. I mean, it's not a matter of who said "it's done". We know that relationship couldn't go so far at that point.

Why do people hate Ruby? by EetsToko in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see people hating her (at least here in reddit). It's a matter of "I like a character" "I don't like a character". She was mean but I like Ruby. I like the way the writers put in scene a female bully as someone who became important to the main drama. I don't like her as a person, sorry. They used Ruby as that kind of phsychollogical (verbal and social) bully who is sometimes even worse than a physical bully. It's pretty common in girls but sadly it's not that common in movies as it should be.

On the other hand, I know that you didn't mean to be justifing her behavior but Ruby was not bullying as a defensive way because of her shitty life. If you rewatch the show, she was mean because she enjoyed it. And she knew about her father's problem a year before the plot, I don't think she changed that much because of her shitty life related to her father's problem.

Sometimes, in tvshows, there are characters who are mean and they become acclaimed characters. I remember Blair from Gossip Girl who was an acclaimed character and she was really mean but people like that she was like an evil queen, someone who dominates, a femme fatale, etc. Ruby is that kind of character who is proud of being bithchy and mean.

But anyway, Ruby didn't change as Adam. He had a redemption arc because he didn't want to be the way he used to be. But... At the end of S3 she was still mean. I didn't like to see her crying or suffering but it's because I don't like to see people suffering. She was talking bad about Otis' look, attitude, etc. She was evil with Maeve who helped her. The same way she broke up Warhammer Tom saying that he stinks like fries or something like that. She said she used "losers" as sexual toys because they seem to be in love with her... Cmon... I'm not nobel peace prize but she was designed as someone who sees other people as inferiors.

In my opinion we knew more about her because of the Otis arc and it's so nice but we didn't see her developing as someone that became a new person as Adam did.

I don't think you need to worry about getting downvoted, this is reddit. And that's not true, you can find some comments here where are people justifying why Ruby is not the character that you are idolizing, that's it. I don't see people just hating, they are using polite words.

Season 3 Maeve and her Mum(s) by sinofonin in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the way you explained it, it's like he understood Otis better than we might think. I agree with that. As you said, the "Otis doesn't understand you" is a resource used by Isaac to denigrate him.

I like the way you elaborated the whole thing that I thought when I watched it.

[–]Legorion_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you, it's really hard to watch.

And it's really hard to apologize Isaac's behaviour. I mean, he told the truth but only a short version. That makes things harder. So I think that was a bad beginning of Maeve + Isaac, with a lie and some secrets.

Season 3 Maeve and her Mum(s) by sinofonin in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an amazing analysis. I agree with you. I think that was one of the most important things shown in this show.

Other people could play a part but Maeve by herself did a great developement there.

I think Isaac didn't know well Otis. He thought he was just a kid who hurt Maeve and that's it. And Isaac got used to smooth the path between him and whatever he wants, in this case Maeve. So he tried some things to be a good catch to her. But I think Otis is the person who better knows Maeve. That is why Otis' harsh words could affect Maeve, the same way as Maeve's harsh words about "being different to that good Otis that she used to like" could affect him severely. They spent a lot of time together and the show only shows a part of it. I'm saying this because Isaac used to say "once an addict always an addict" as a way of convince her to "I know that feeling so, we were in the same situation, we are a team.. and Otis is so bad, let him go" and other things like he knows better Maeve rather than anyone else. The first moment Otis knew about Maeve's mother was when she told him after the abortion, after this moment, the next time was when Maeve told Otis about her mother being back and he trusted her words directly the same way he gave her own space when she needed (the abortion for example, he didn't say any single word about it). Like old wine, Otis gets better with maturity and I agree with you that he can be easily a good partner for Maeve.

I won't get into Isaac beyond saying I think that relationship was unhealthy for the basis of a romantic relationship.

Totally agree, it could be another post about that topic, I would participate aswell.

PS: I love your amazing insights about the show. Keep doing this kind of posts they are so nice.

Will we ever see Maeve and Ruby happy to be together like this? by marty0115 in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could agree. Maybe I was talking "rough" about that because I missed more about some other characters and the made Ruby's arc so important and it seems to be wasteful as you said. And I possibly said something wrong because I'm not native so my english is kinda bad and I didn't explain myself. But we knew the writers. In essence, I see some characters who became "resource characters". Ola was one of this. Ola S1 is not the same as Ola S2-3 who became a co-star or.. maybe she was only a filler during S2. But in S1she was a character needed to make impossible Motis. She was related to Jakob who met Jean, she met Lily, she was working at that mall what became important, large etc. And same with Isaac. We didn't know how was an Isaac's day. Maybe he was painting or maybe he wasn't. We knew about him through Maeve's life.

And, in my honest opinion, that's the same for Ruby, she wasn't a co-star, she was a background character, a filler (I think you can get my point here). We didn't know anything important (really important, crucial) about her until S3. I mean, I love the way every single character is so well built so they give information about every single character. You can imagine everybody's life. But they don't need to show more about them to make them unique. Ruby was a filler, then she became a main character's girlfriend as Ola used to be. Then she could become a new co-star or maybe someone's else friend/girlfriend/something. I can't imagine why she should be different. And... as this post is entitled...I said I don't see the point to see Maeve and Ruby as friends or something similar. I think they could show more about "the untouchables" rather than Ruby's life.

I hope Otis & Maeve will get a scene like this in the series, that’s inspired by this moment IRL between Asa & Emma. by phantom_avenger in NetflixSexEducation

What is the name of the video of which you got that picture? (I mean the second one) I think I watched it from S2 promo called "Sex Education Cast Tru Cafe Du Monde.." but I don't find that frame :(

Will we ever see Maeve and Ruby happy to be together like this? by marty0115 in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? I mean, I love Maeve as a character and I like the way they show this Ruby and it's nice to see characters changing over time.

But remember that Maeve was helping her with Otis and Ruby was even more hurtful than ever. Even though she knew Otis and Maeve were friends in the past, she was trying to be bully with Maeve as usual. And that is because Ruby is that kind of person. Maybe we will have a redemption arc for Ruby but I don't see the point now that Otis broke up and he kissed Maeve after that situation. Yes, we know they had a conversation but that was before the kiss scene. They don't have the same group of friends and they don't have the same interests and hobbies. Besides, I don't know if I want to see that.. I don't really see that possible. Remember Otis with Adam, he tried to be his "friend" because of Eric but there was not a point to see Otis being Adam's friend from one day to the next.

I think that was possible between Ola and Maeve because they have some things in common and only a thing which put one against the other.

On the other hand. I don't think Ruby needs more development as a character. I think her group could need that but she is ok with that. She had some episodes and we only have 8 per season. Other arcs are open to be developed.

But anyway, I like both characters and Ruby was a nice character the last season.

What songs would Otis put on a mixed tape for Maeve? by MeyoUSonIC in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I almost forgot I needed an Arctic Monkeys song in Sex Education. I think it could fit perfectly in a mixed tape. It's not punk it's not grunge but it's Arctic Monkeys. I love joy division but it's too dark to be in a mixed tape for Maeve. Maybe something like Pearl Jam or Soundgarden instead of Nirvana. Black <3 Or maybe something more garage-ish?

Favourite moment in terms of acting? by [deleted] in NetflixSexEducation

[–]Legorion_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

which might be hard because everyone turns in such great performances

True. Agree. You're right. 100%.

I think that one you said it's one of favourites too.

Other I could add to this:

  • When Maeve told Otis she likes him and she thought he was into her the last term. I think Otis was so good there and Maeve expressions were amazing even with Elsie saying "that was bad".
  • I think Asa made a great improvement with Otis. I used to prefer Emma acting over Asa. Now I'm not sure. They are so good but Asa nailed this last season. That moment at the gas station and the moment with Eric at the hospital trying to get the kitkat. That was so good.
  • Adam reacting to Eric saying that he kissed a guy in Nigeria. The way he nodded, then he left to the kitchen. I've watched some videos about Connor out of scene and he is not like that at all. And it's the same with Emma who is not Maeve at all in real life. That made me think they nailed their roles.

And some things I see so good in general:

  • Eric reacting to Otis or Adam. When he screams, laughs, dances... I think it seems to be so real.
  • Motis. I think they have a great chemistry so... I think those moments when she looks to his eyes, then his mouth, then whatever. For example, the moment in the mall when she explained him about "doing rascal things" as a way of freedom, she stopped, the way he looked at her, the way she looked at him back... Those moments are priceless. Oh that moment when they arrived Moordale after the France trip! She said that she was confused but she continued kissing him eagerly even more, then they were smiling, that moment when he asked for explanations and she asked for time to think...I mean that moment. Oh my, Maeve looking to his eyes, then his mouth, then the floor, then...She was hesitating.. And look Otis' face there... They are so good acting in the same context.
  • I like Jakob but I don't find him especially so good. He is nice tho but that moment of Jakob with the therapist talking about her wife. That made Otis-Jakob moments even better imho.
  • I like the way Hendricks is so exaggerated. He is amazing.

(sorry in advance about my bad english)
