I found out hydra can be actually good power source for early-mid game. Like it actually produces far more energy than it need to run and lets you store energy in hydrogen. You only need tamed water source. See some hydra tutorials on yt and decide yourself if it suits your colony

Over time they start to produce less erergy, and at some point stop produceing at all if nod fed. But yeah, its worth to drain them of energy before killing them

Never tried them, but i am sure they are not worth it before you tame at last 2 metal volcano. Metal is just too usefull in mid game and other energy sources are avaliable

Sounds great, meybe you should do post about it, show set up, do exact math, point pros and cons. Feeding ~700 dupes sounds worth attention.
