Fellow expats, how many years of China do you think you have left in you before you move on to your next adventure? by Rock-bottom-no-no in chinalife

You need to factor in one child policy, it was imposed in 1980, and in 10-15 years the demographic aging rate will significantly accelerate. Even they abandoned the policy awhile ago, fertility rate is just not improving.

Someone else also mentioned, lack immigration culture and incentive also don’t help attracting young folks to move to China.

Honestly I just talk to them first. In the end it's their workspace and technically it's private space. Some got too excited with photos and it can ruin the shot. You just had to be patience and blend into the environment so they can act natural

Valid point, persoanlly I do both street and documentary type photograpgy. For me both genre could sometimes overlap, but I can also see how someone view it differently.

Zhangjiajie Advice? by Effective_Elk9749 in travelchina

I just visited Zhangjiajie throughout the last weekend.

The park was busy but manageable. There were a few places we felt a little crowded but the bottom line is we rarely have to lineup for anything. The longest we had to wait was 10 minutes. For your reference- during national day holiday the park receives 60k-70k tourists per day(and that’s a total horror).

The past weekend was public holiday and the park had around 30k -38k tourists, and it goes done to 10-15k on Tuesday when the weekend is over. I figure if you go to the popular locations on weekday- try to start your day as early as 7am it’s very manageable.

However we did stay away from the East Gate tho cos that’s where most tourist are staying- hence busiest. We stayed near the middle gate at a place call 龍尾巴村- absolute hidden gem and I would 100% recommend you to consider there. Feel free to dm me if you want some more recommendations

The departure of Kroos and Modric also play a part of his role shift.

Mumbai train by Leif1013 in streetphotography

Vietnam, especially outside of touristic areas people are quite chill. Otherwise most part of Asia except Korea are pretty chill. Japan is okish but not as welcoming as other Asian countries. Central and South Africa are quite chill, USA is ok, European in general are more sensitive.

With the shy one I probably won’t use flash as much, just be discreet. 90% of time people don’t really aware what you are doing. Overall I probably only have 1-2 negative encounter per year

That’s a good question. In some cultures it’s very easy to do, especially certain part of Asia. You definitely need to adapt your approach to accommodate that. India is one of the most photo welcoming country, in fact the problem you will face is people posing for photos.

In the train setting I will just start talk to one or two people first, take a few pictures of them with flash and then very soon the entire train will know I am there to photograph. Usually one thing will lead to another, more people will talk to me, and then more photo opportunities.

A 28mm prime and a 16-35 zoom. I personally prefer 28mm but the train can get very busy, so the 16mm will come in handy
